This single-session class, presented by Ridgeview’s lactation consultants, provides information to help moms prepare for successful breastfeeding. Ridgeview wishes everyone a safe and happy Halloween. If you are going trick-or-treating this evening, follow these tips to help keep your family safe:

+ Wear safe costumes. Be sure shoes and costumes fit properly, with nothing dragging that could cause falls. Masks should be tight-fitting and easy to see out of or avoided.

+ Safety in numbers. Always trick-or-treat in a group. Don’t let kids go alone.

+ Stand out in the dark. Use glow sticks or add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags for greater visibility.

+ Cross streets appropriately. Cross at crosswalks and street corners. Always stop and look both ways.

+ Check candy. Parents should always check treats before kids eat them.

Today is World Stroke Day. According to the American Heart Association, every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke. Ridgeview’s Waconia and Chaska hospital campuses are designated as Acute Stroke Ready Hospitals (ASRH) by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). Be prepared and learn the signs of stroke. BE FAST.

[B]alance. Sudden loss of balance or coordination.

[E]yes. Sudden blurred, double or loss of vision.

[F]ace. Drooping or numbness of the face.

[A]rm. Weakness or numbness of the arms or legs on one side of the body.

[S]peech. Slurred speech, unable to speak or difficult to understand.

[T]ime. If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.
