A caregiver told me recently that she was turned down for a job because of her role as a caregiver. The prospective employer told her she wouldn't hire her because she feared she couldn't meet the demands while caring for her mother with dementia. We know that caregivers are hardworking, reliable, loyal, empathetic problem solvers who think on their feet. They are exactly the kind of people you want on your team. It's time to start supporting them rather than penalizing them for stepping up when so many others step away. Nearly 80% of the workforce is caring for a loved one so ignoring the impact of caregiving on the workforce hurts everyone.
