✨Birth is a Rite of Passage ✨
Across many cultures, Rite of Passages are considered vital to our human experience. They are woven into our physiologic design. They are cohesive to Natures Law.
Cycles and reciprocity exist in Nature
Birth ➡️ Life ➡️ Death ➡️ Repeat
In pregnancy, the separation of our self begins. Our identities start to shift and ‘die’ in preparation of transitioning into motherhood- our new self.
Birth is where we are initiated into that transition. That first step in between worlds, where our beliefs and consciousness shift. Our very being is permanently altered.
Then comes postpartum- the new beginning, the incorporation. Integrating the wisdom we’ve harvested from our experience- no matter how good or bad our experience was.
It is during this time where mothers often feel disoriented, ungrounded, open and vulnerable. Pregnancy & Birth itself is a physically/energetically opening & expansive experience. The acknowledgment and celebration of this experience IS what completes the Rite of Passage.
This completion is what our modern culture has forgotten❗️
The ancient ceremonial tradition known as Closing of the Bones (pictured above) is a ritual in which we honor & hold the mother. It is a time deep nurturing and witnessing. Through the art of tightly wrapping her in cloth (traditionally through the use of a robozo) We ‘close’ her and allow her to fully integrate her birth experience, so that she can re-emerge into her community feeling empowered and exalted 💖
On March 24th- Darcie Azarian of
