A beautiful fall morning in Exeter: sun shining, leaves changing, and neighbors working side by side to protect the trails we all love.

Thanks to a combined effort from the Invasives Interest Group, Landscaping team, and Trails Committee, our native species now have space to thrive after a hands-on clearing event where we removed invasive growth. Through their hard work, our community can continue to enjoy miles of healthy, vibrant scenery.

During National Housekeeping Week, we honor the dedicated team members whose hard work ensures our communities run smoothly and our residents feel at home. Their efforts often happen behind the scenes, but their impact is felt every single day.

One of those incredible people is Annjanette Fortier, Assistant Manager of Housekeeping at RiverWoods Exeter. Annjanette is known for keeping apartments spotless and managing the complex cleaning schedule that helps our community shine. But her talents extend far beyond housekeeping: Annjanette is also a passionate writer.

For Annjanette, writing is about creating something from nothing and finding satisfaction in speaking from the heart. Her advice to aspiring writers is to “write for yourself” and remember that “baby steps are O.K.” Words of wisdom that apply not just to writing, but to anyone pursuing something they love.

Today, we pause to honor Juneteenth — a day of reflection and celebration. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom. This day marks a pivotal moment in our nation’s history and continues to inspire progress toward equity and inclusion.

At RiverWoods, we believe that the community grows stronger when we recognize and celebrate the diverse histories that shape our collective experience. In that spirit, we also take this opportunity to support local Black-owned businesses near our communities, whose creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurship enrich the Seacoast and Southern New Hampshire region.
