At ChildLight, our approach to wellness isn’t rooted in trends — it’s grounded in lineage, longevity, and lived experience. We’ve studied under wise, dedicated teachers, immersed ourselves in traditional and modern teachings, and built practices that sustain us daily, weekly, and seasonally. Yoga is not just a workout or a quick certification — it’s a way of life, and a responsibility we carry with care. In this blog post, we’re reflecting on the deeper purpose behind what we offer, and the agency we hold in sharing these teachings with integrity and heart.

If you’re about to get a lot of snow, don’t forget to stretch before AND after shoveling! Legs Up the Wall is a great posture to add to your post-shovel stretch session. This shape may alleviate low back pain, stress, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, migraines, nausea, insomnia, varicose veins and more!

If you can find a spare wall and some spare time, we highly recommend you give a try! Try staying in this shape for 5-15 minutes. Inhale for a count of three, exhale for a count of six. This breath pattern can help to calm the brain and nervous system.

Let us know how it goes!

ā€œStop looking outside for scraps of pleasure or fulfillment, for validation, security or love - you have a treasure within that is infinitely greater than anything the world can offer.ā€

Valentine’s Day may have you pondering what it means to love. In order to love others, we have heard time and time again that we must first learn to love ourselves. Self-care is an active way we can show love toward ourselves.

ā€œAn empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.ā€ – Unknown

Focusing on self-care doesn’t stop with the individual. Once the individual is feeling well, the ultimate goal expands outward to community-care. We cannot heal, nourish & truly love our communities until we look inward to earnestly heal, nourish & love ourselves. Yoga, mindfulness & other wellness modalities can provide the how-tos for accomplishing this bigger goal of community love.

Yoga suggests that our big job here on Earth is to learn how to love better. To love when it’s easy & to love when it’s hard. This week, let’s make it a point to show ourselves love so we can collectively celebrate loving bigger & better than our human minds can comprehend.

WE LOVE YOU!

Parents worried about their children’s stress often notice the ā€œsmall tellsā€ first—short tempers, stomachaches, bedtime battles, or a kid who suddenly melts down over socks. Stress in children can look different than stress in adults, and it doesn’t always show up as sadness or obvious worry. The goal of kid-friendly self-care isn’t to make every hard feeling disappear; it’s to help your child’s nervous system downshift so they can think, sleep, and bounce back.

Many of us are skilled at working hard but could use more practice with resting. Savasana is your scheduled time to practice rest and may be the most important part of our physical yoga practice.

We live in a culture where productivity is praised and the art of just being is labeled as ā€œlazy.ā€ Our younger generations deserve better than these labels. We must model a balance of work and rest each day for our children, but how are we supposed to do that if we don’t know how to do it ourselves?

Both the physical and philosophical practices of yoga teach us how to approach this balance in life. Yoga teaches us how to discover our self-worth no matter how we are spending our time. If you are curious about how to integrate the practice into your every day living, we encourage you to check out our programs.
