Here are simple ways to use 4th of July words at home to support your child’s speech and language skills.

🎆 Talk about fireworks you see or point out stars and stripes on flags you see.

🎨 Incorporate the words into activities like coloring: “Let’s draw a flag! What colors do we need?”

📖 Read a simple 4th of July picture book and pause to highlight and repeat words that are on the list.

🎤 If your child says a word like “flag,” expand it! Try responding with, “Yes, that’s a red flag! It has stripes, too!”

🎲 Try a scavenger hunt, bingo, or memory match using the words or related pictures.

Practice doesn’t have to be perfect. Celebrate effort and progress, not perfection. Little moments go a long way!

Most children make errors in articulation when learning how to speak. Luckily, many children outgrow these articulation errors!

However, when a child does not outgrow particular errors or error patterns, he or she may be at risk for an Articulation Disorder. If you're concerned, reach out to a Speech Therapist, so that they can assess your child and see if there is a need for treatment. 😊
