Today is World Cancer Day, an opportunity to raise awareness about cancer and promote prevention, early detection, and treatment.

This year's theme for World Cancer Day is "United by Unique," which emphasizes that behind every cancer diagnosis is a unique individual with a personal story. The campaign sheds light on a people-centered approach to cancer treatment and promotes compassion and empathy.

Aveanna is committed to supporting those who are fighting cancer to remind them that they are not alone. To learn more about World Cancer Day, visit https://pulse.ly/ido7vawlyx

As a micro-preemie, Aveanna patient Racarda has proven some of the strongest fighters come in the smallest packages.

After nearly a year in the hospital, Racarda joined Aveanna in August. His nurses, Jai and Olenkeya, play a pivotal role in his care, supporting his oxygen, g‑button needs, and growth every step of the way. With their help, Racarda has continued to hit milestones and experience new things like snow, all while staying safe and happy with his family.

Patients like Racarda are at the heart of all we do at Aveanna. This Patient Recognition Week, and every week in between, we are thrilled to celebrate his inspiring story.

Born at just 28 weeks this past June, Aveanna patient Daisy has overcome tremendous odds in the NICU. Now, she is home and ready to start the next exciting chapter in her care journey!

Nurse Nicola and Clinical Supervisor Shelly were by the family’s side at Daisy’s start of care to make sure everything went smoothly on their special day. Today, Aveanna acknowledges Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day, an opportunity to spread awareness about the disease, advocate for research, and support those affected and their families.

Kawasaki Disease (KD) is a rare condition that primarily affects infants and young children. It leads to inflammation of blood vessels and fever. Symptoms also include red or pink eyes, cracked lips, swelling, upset stomach, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. Although the cause is unknown, early treatment can result in a full recovery for most.

This year's theme, "Lights On, Hearts Strong," highlights the resilience of KD patients and their families. Visit https://pulse.ly/otvbvlcfzl to discover more about KD and how you can help raise awareness.

Aveanna is honored to join the global community in celebrating Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day. This special day allows us to honor individuals living with the condition and raise awareness.

Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that results in facial paralysis, causing challenges in speaking, eating, and breathing. This congenital condition can impact anyone, regardless of their background. The theme for this year's awareness event is "The Faces Moving Us Forward," a celebration of everyday leaders living with Moebius Syndrome.

Today and every day, we commend the resilience of our patients living with Moebius syndrome and celebrate the advocates promoting education, research, and support. To learn more about Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day, visit https://pulse.ly/dqbbfcujqa

Winter storm Fern may impact many of our patients and team members in the South and Northeast this weekend. Read more here: https://pulse.ly/eovatvcyqs

We encourage everyone in affected areas to remain vigilant and be prepared for the effects of this storm including possible power outages and road closures.

We want to make sure our Aveanna community is prepared. Patients and their families should follow these tips based on guidance from the Oley Foundation:

• If there is a true medical emergency please call 911.

• Make sure you have back up power or batteries ready for any medical devices or pumps you depend on. Keep a battery powered radio and your cell phone charged so you can stay informed.

• Plug in any medical equipment or devices that need to be charged (e.g., ventilators, feeding pumps, mobile phones, etc.)

• Listen to appropriate warnings from governmental officials advising of precautions and evacuations.

• Check with home care suppliers and medical providers NOW to ensure that you have enough medications and nutritional supplies (formula, HPN, etc.) to last at least 48–72 hours, in case of supply chain delays.

• Write down important telephone numbers in case you cannot access the contacts on your mobile phone. This includes, but is not limited to, your home care company branch, regional and national offices.

• For the most updated information on weather conditions visit the National Weather Service at https://pulse.ly/fo3gjbnpgn

*If you are evacuated or relocated due to a weather emergency, notify your Aveanna team as soon as possible.

Be prepared and stay safe!
