During the height of the oil pipeline construction, mammograms were very difficult for women to obtain. A small group of area women organized to solve the problem. Through their efforts, the Breast Cancer Detection Center opened in 1976 to provide mammograms to Interior Alaskan women. Mobile mammography was introduced to Interior Alaska communities in 1995. In 1997, we added a smaller more portabl
e mammography machine, that served the villages off the highway in our van and remote parts of Alaska via airplane or barge. Nancy Murkowski continues to support BCDC today and has been responsible for raising over four million dollars to date to support the center through her Annual Waterfall Foundation Fundraising Event. We often say that without her support BCDC would not be here. In December 2009 we purchased our Hologic Selenia full-field digital mammography system for our clinic in Fairbanks. This machine provides exceptional image quality and improves the efficiency of exams so that your results will be available in two days! Every effort was expended in the purchase of this machine to assure that we offer you the best exam possible. In Spring of 2011 we purchased a 33 foot Freightliner coach equipped with the latest in digital full-field mammography technology. This will provide the same state-of-the-art mammography offered by BCDC at our clinic, throughout Fairbanks, the City of North Pole, villages along the roadway, and areas accessible through the barge system. We pride ourselves in providing professional, accurate and comfortable mammograms to suite everyone. All of our radiologic technologists are mammography certified and provide the utmost in personal care during your mammogram. We strive to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We participate in Health Fairs, Community Presentations and Media awareness campaigns. BCDC is a non-profit organization. We are funded by payment for services and donations from patients. We are fortunate to have support from members of the community and their corporate partners. Our funds are used to pay for our operational costs to bring mammograms and education to underserved populations. We do bill all insurance for mammogram services when available. Our mammograms are available to all regardless of ability to pay! Resources:
