ACCA Inc.

ACCA Inc. Alaska Center for Children and Adults has been serving Alaskan's since 1956.

ACCA began in the 1940's as a statewide network of concerned citizens, who established resource and referral services to help people access medical and adaptive equipment services. Throughout the years, ACCA has maintained its focus on services to children, adults and families who experience many types of disabilities. Today, ACCA programs provide services focusing on supporting family members with disabilities in everyday routines, school and community activities. Our mission is to assist in improving the lives of people with disabilities and their families by providing quality diagnostic, educational and referral services in conjunction with other community providers without regard to ability to pay. ACCA Programs serve communities in the Interior, North Slope and South Central regions of Alaska. We are a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Corporation and receive funding from private and public funding sources. Our team got together this weekend for some fun away from work. We had a delicious dinner and then painted bowls for Empty Bowls 2026 (link to event below). One of our favorite potters (and former team member) helped us paint some beautiful bowls while laughing and chatting and finding our creative side.

Thank you to our amazing team of staff for their dedication to our community every day. We had an amazing time and we can’t wait to see the bowls once they are finished. Also a big thank you to Midnight Sun Golf Course midnightsungolf for their dedication delicious food and beautiful scenery!

🧦Today is World Down Syndrome Day! A day designated to wear unique socks to celebrate the diversity of individuals with Down syndrome and spark conversations that raise awareness. The socks represent that, much like chromosomes under a microscope, our unique differences make us special.

🧬Down syndrome is caused by the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome (3-21).

Thank you to our talented staff member Brittany for the amazing sign she made for our lobby! ⭐️ ACCA staff wore their socks on Friday to raise awareness and celebrate!

Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks.

ROCK YOUR SOCKS
March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Down syndrome chromosomes actually looks like socks!

Join us in wearing your fun socks on Friday, March 20th (since we are closed on the 21st but we like to do this as a team) AND Saturday, March 21st!

Public comment is open on an important plan for the future!

Opportunity for Public Comment on 2027-2031 State Plan Goal & Objectives

Every five years, the Alaska Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education (Council) is required by the United States Administration on Developmental Disabilities to create a state plan of goals and objectives for its work as the Developmental Disabilities Council for Alaska.

The Council must decide what it plans to get done during the next five years. Before writing the plan, the Council held in-person as well as virtual community forums to find out what participants think is important for people with disabilities and their families in Alaska. The Council also sent a web survey to thousands of Alaskans asking similar questions. Once the information was collected, the Council met to review the information and to decide what priorities, goals, and objectives the Council should work on from 2027 to 2031.

Based on the work of the Governor’s Council members, the draft 2026-2031 State Plan has been developed and is now available for public comment. The plan describes the goal and objectives that the Council will work on during the years 2027-2031.

The draft State Plan will be available for public comment through April 19th, 2026. This is the 45-day period for public notice that is required by the Developmental Disabilities Act.

You may provide public comment using the options below:
• Participate in an online survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DPK9R5J
• Email comments to doh.gcdse.info@alaska.gov

If you have any questions about the public comment process or need assistance completing the survey, please contact our office at 907-269-8990, toll-free within Alaska at 1-888-269-8990, or via email at doh.gcdse.info@alaska.gov
