Alaska is a big state but our communities are small and closely connected, which makes running into our elected officials more likely. We recently had the opportunity to catch-up with Mayor David Pruhs at the Alaska Mental Health Trust event hosted in Fairbanks. It was a pleasure to see the Mayor and thank him in-person for his support of PHH and our kids.💜

About 30 million children participate in USDA’s school breakfast and lunch programs on an average school day. When school is out for the summer, kids lose access to these healthy meals, but they still need nutritious food to grow healthy and strong. With SUN Meals, kids 18 and under can get free meals and snacks at schools, parks, and other group meal locations. In some rural areas, SUN Meals To-Go can be picked up or delivered. And SUN Bucks helps families stretch grocery budgets with a $120 grocery benefit for each eligible school-aged child, so you can buy more of the foods your children love!

At the Presbyterian Hospitality House, we encourage our kids to dream big - to be doers! And we believe it is important to set them up for success by empowering them with the skills they need to be productive community members and good neighbors. 💜

At the Presbyterian Hospitality House, providing responsive and individualized treatment to our youth is paramount - this leads to greater outcomes of success, and Therapeutic Treatment Homes are a critical part of that equation. Therapeutic Treatment Homes are a safe and supportive environment that allow youth to work through complex emotional and behavioral issues with optimal support. In 1957, Mrs. Mable Rasmussen opened her home to girls coming from rural Alaskan areas as a safe place to start out in Fairbanks society. These girls are now teachers, legislators, and leaders of their communities. Today PHH is a ‘faith-friendly’ traditional foster care program for individualized care to address mental health and behavioral challenges of youth 3 to 23 years old. Like Mrs. Rasmussen, PHH creates safe spaces for Alaskan youth to rest, heal, and be successful as a part of Alaskan society. This month we celebrate all the important work women do in our community and continue to do at PHH. Happy Women’s History Month! 💜
