We had a resident here at the Summit, turn 100 years young on Thursday, September 8th. Her name is Erma Fox. We threw her a surprise Hollywood Blvd Party. I told her that the eye doctor called and said she had an appointment. I told her that her phone must not be working properly because her family had been trying to call her to let her know to be ready. I told her that I immediately had to take her downstairs to leave on time for her appointment. All of this was not true, obviously. Took her down to the 2nd floor, to a room packed with people, including her nephew Roger Norman and his wife Patty. We took her down the red carpet to a special chair for the birthday girl. Dressed her appropriately for a Hollywood style party, especially when you’re the star. (sun glasses, beautiful red hat with a matching red boa) We told a few interesting facts about Erma, such as: she was born and raised in southern Ohio, her hometown is known for still making old-fashioned washboards, her first job was a telephone operator, she retired from Sears credit department and she made ALL of her own clothes until the last few years, she helped raise her nephew, Roger, due to his father going to war and his mother working, but Erma never married or had children of her own. After the interesting facts, we opened the floor to comments from anyone in the room. Erma was deeply touched to hear all the loving words spoken. We then popped a couple champagne bottles, with a cork hitting the ceiling, and had a wonderful toast to a precious woman that has blessed this earth for 100 years and told her we all love her. We then enjoyed some tasty hors d’oeuvres. We ended this special afternoon with her making her gold Hollywood handprint by her gold star, later putting it in a gold frame and placing on the fireplace mantle, just as any real star would do on Hollywood blvd.
