How do you show yourself love?

Do you look outward for examples of people who are like you, who have developed the ability to show themselves love and acceptance, to see how you can offer yourself the same love?

Do you look inward for the places where you aren’t yet able to fully embrace yourself, to see where you can stay curious and try to understand yourself better?

Do you wonder how to start loving yourself fully, letting go of shame and finding ways to love even the parts of yourself you turn away from?

Consider individual therapy with a Neutral Ground Counseling Group therapist, where you can move forward in self-discovery, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.

When your teen is struggling and you want to offer advice, here is the way to help them hear you:

Listen first: Hear them out.

Validate; you don’t have to agree, but you can try to see their side and let them know you hear them.

Regulation: your teen is upset and needs to find ways to calm down before you talk.

Sharing: Share your advice after your teen has been heard and has self-regulated. They will feel safer with you, and will be able to hear you and accept your advice more easily.

If your teen is struggling and needs extra support, contact us today to see how a Neutral Ground Counseling Group therapist can help: https://ngcgrp.com/services/individual-therapy-for-teens

It takes practice to become the person you want to be.

If you spend time seeking validation from others, you may find that nothing is quite the right fit for you. You may internalize this, thinking that YOU are the wrong fit.

When you’re looking to understand yourself, you need to look inward, not outward, to see where your values, your needs, and your goals in life really lie. To become the person you want to be, you have to try, adjust, learn, and try again.

If you find yourself at odds with how the world sees you, and are in need of someone to walk with you as you practice becoming someone who feels like you are truly yourself, connect with us today. Our LGBTQIA2+ affirming therapists know that being seen for who you are, and living authentically as your most open self, is the best way to live, and they will help you as you embark on this process of self-discovery.

Pride month is a month of celebration, reflection, and community action. We celebrate those who have fought for LGBTQIA2+ rights throughout our past, and lift up the voices of those who fight for our rights now. Taking pride in who you are means stepping into your own power, and we want to empower anyone and everyone to live fully, as their most authentic selves.

We are proud of our support of the LGBTQIA2+ community, and offer affirming therapy services that accept and welcome you as you are, helping you discover your personal power as your most authentic self: ngcgrp.com/services/lgbtq-affirming-therapy-in-virginia-dc

05/31/2024

If you find yourself constantly trying to figure out how other people are feeling and manage their emotions, you are well on your way to emotional burnout.

Consider this reframe: the people around you are just that, people. It’s their job, not yours, to know how they're feeling and to manage those emotions.

It's a common trauma response to try to decode how other people are feeling; it feels safer to decide other's emotional states instead of allowing for uncertainty.

Instead of guessing, assuming, and becoming a tangled ball of stress by being tapped into the emotions of everyone around you, offer yourself some boundaries.

🌿If someone hasn’t told you what they’re thinking or feeling, try to release the need to know.
🌿If you want to know, give yourself an opportunity, and ask them for more information.
🌿If you find yourself uncomfortable, try sitting with that discomfort, and observing it like you’d observe a cloud in the sky or a painting at a museum.
🌿Consider being curious about your own thoughts and feelings instead. Looking inward can give you insight, since you know yourself the best!

It can be tempting to turn away from the challenges we're faceing—to disconnect, to pretend they aren’t there and to hope that they’ll just go away.

There is another way. Turn toward yourself, look at what you want to change, and look for ways to change it. Walk toward the challenge, and look for support around you as you walk through it and into a life that feels like the best fit for you.

If you’re looking for support as you work through a tough time, connect with us, we are ready to walk through it with you: ngcgrp.com/contact-us

Asking for help can feel like a sign of weakness, a sign we can’t handle things, a sign we are less-than.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Asking for help is a tremendous act of bravery. It takes guts to reach out and be vulnerable. It takes grit to look honestly at yourself and see where you want to make change.

When you ask for help, you show just how strong you really are. 💪

It's a busy world. Many of us live our lives on the go, trying to stay ahead of the curve, trying to grow and get to the next level. Stress can creep up on you, and often shows up in your body with tight muscles, headaches, and cramped posture.

These quick hacks can help you release stress and shake off some of the tension you're carrying.

✓ Pro tip: Consider setting a reminder in your phone, a simple beep, to remind you each hour of your work day to take a moment and release some tension.

When you’re worried about someone you love, it can be tough to know how to start a conversation around mental health. You want to help, but you might feel uncomfortable and uncertain about how to begin, even with someone you're close to.

The best way to start the conversation around mental health is to approach your loved one with an open mind, and open-ended questions. Ask how they’re doing, and actually listen to what they say. Don’t judge or jump to conclusions, just listen, hear them, and let them know you’re there for them.

Stop the stigma, start the conversation.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, Neutral Ground Counseling Group wants to help take the shame out of seeking mental healthcare.

Shame is tough to stare down. It can silence us, keep us from living out loud, and demand we stay small.

But shame can’t stand up to vocal support and the power of people embracing their whole selves. Talking about it helps show that mental healthcare is a totally normal part of taking care of yourself.

Finding supportive mental healthcare that accepts and celebrates the parts of you that make you unique is a great first step toward embracing yourself where you are, and as you are.

NGCG is here for you, ready to empower, help you heal, and encourage you to embrace all parts of yourself. Get in touch, and see how we can support you: ngcgrp.com/services
