Spent a day on Capitol Hill to lobby for the Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act of 2025 MAAIA (H.R.2757/ S.1996) with some amazing VA Audiologists. * MAAIA would reclassify audiologists as “practitioners” in the Medicare program allowing Direct Access to Audiologic hearing and balance services: Eliminating the requirement for a physician referral before a patient can see an Audiologist thereby reducing unnecessary office visit and associated cost.

Introducing Dr. Julie Jimenez
Hi! I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, and received my Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Towson University where I graduated with Cum Laude honors. I subsequently received my Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University, located in suburban Philadelphia. My externship/residency was completed at Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance and Ear Institute in Newport Beach, CA where I mainly focused on vestibular diagnostics, vestibular rehabilitation, as well as hearing aids.

I became an audiologist because of my grandmother. She struggled with hearing loss for a large part of her life, and it was challenging to communicate with her from across the globe. Over time, her hearing had drastically declined, and right before she passed away, I told her that I loved her one last time. My grandmother couldn't understand me and could not respond back to me. She ended up passing away without knowing that I loved her more than the world. I was absolutely devastated, and I knew from that moment how important it was for individuals to have the ability to understand their loved ones no matter what is being communicated. And while this was such a heartbreaking experience, I was inspired to become an audiologist and strive to help others as best I can. I look forward to meeting you!

Welcome Dr. Brian Decker
Hello! My name is Brian Decker. I am a Maryland native; received my doctorate from the University of Memphis in Tennessee; and completed my externship at Georgetown University Hospital. My passion for audiology comes from growing up with family members who have hearing difficulties. I wanted to learn more about the underlying problems and the solutions for how to help those who can be impacted in their daily lives by hearing difficulties. When I am not completing a hearing test or have my hands on hearing aids, I enjoy spending time with my wife and friends, exploring new areas/towns, eating absurd amounts of food, and finding the nearest body of water that I can swim in. I look forward to being a local audiologist for the DC Metropolitan area and supporting any person who walks through our Hearing Doctors' door!

The Vestibular System
The medical term for the part of the inner ear involved with balance is called the vestibular system. The vestibular system is an organ located within the inner ear which relays information to the brain about balance and orientation of the head and body. Balance is a complex interaction which requires input from our vestibular system, in addition to our vision and the sensation from our feet, muscles, and joints. If any one of these systems are not working properly, you will suffer loss of balance.

Welcome Dr. Chantal Simard
Dr. Simard enjoys working with patients to provide individualized treatment plans for their hearing needs and ensures they receive the best care and hearing outcomes. Dr. Simard’s personal experience wearing a hearing aid inspired her to become a doctor of Audiology and believes it helps her relate to patients on a more personal level.

As a Doctor of Audiology, Dr. Simard works with patients and their families to understand their audiology evaluation results and find a solution best suited for a patient's degree of hearing loss, lifestyle, and budget.

Dr. Simard earned her Doctorate in Audiology from Salus University. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in speech-language pathology and audiology from Clarion University. She completed her doctoral externship at the Hearing Clinic of Greater New Orleans. Dr. Simard is licensed to practice in Virginia and Maryland. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and is board certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA).

Most injuries in the elderly, especially hip fractures, are the result of falls. Which are often due to frailty and immobility in older persons, Research by Pierrie et al. examined health care encounters of individuals during the year prior to a hip fracture. After identifying a potential weakness professionals should be encouraged to refer the patient to an evidenced-based falls prevention program in the community.
