This month, our waiting family training focuses on expectations. Effectively setting and managing expectations can significantly impact the adoption journey, as unrealistic assumptions about the process and adoption reality can lead to undue stress and, in some cases, adoption disruption. Last Monday, we were invited back to speak at Theology on Tap. This year, the diocese celebrated 25 years of this program! Savannah, one of our caseworkers, and Francesca, a former employee and adoptive mom spoke on the topic "Embracing Love: Transforming How We See Adoption". Savannah and Francesca explored the shift needed to transform how society views and experiences adoption. They discussed outdated stigmas, the diverse realities of adoptive families, and fostering a culture rooted in love, understanding, and inclusion. They shared personal stories about breaking down barriers and misconceptions and embracing adoption as a powerful expression of God’s grace and family. It was a great night!

A while back, we embarked on a journey with a courageous couple who found themselves unexpectedly expecting. They initially reached out to explore adoption, but through regular meetings with their pregnancy counselor, they began to uncover a path forward that would empower them to make a choice that was best for their baby. With the counselor's guidance, they confronted their concerns - from the impact on their other children to the fear of judgment from their community - and discovered they had the strength to navigate their situation. By focusing on the essential steps to build a strong co-parenting foundation, they realized that with the right tools and mindset, they could create a loving environment for their child to thrive. And in doing so, they came to understand that adoption, while a selfless option, wasn't the only way to ensure their baby's well-being. Instead, they found the confidence to rise to the challenge and provide a loving home for their little one.

Next week, we are sending 2 of our staff to the 2025 Adoption Conference in Minneapolis where our PD will be presenting. We are so excited to learn, network and share with other adoption professionals and members of the adoption triad.

Many thanks to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Arlington, National Council For Adoption and Catholic Charities USA for the encouragement and assistance in making this possible.

We hope you all have a wonderful Father's Day!
