Swipe for before --> This was a quick refresh of my client's kitchen medicine cabinet. I added two bins with labels to each shelf to help keep like items together so they are easier to find and the family is less likely to buy unnecessary duplicates.

The thing about disorganization is that it leads to more disorganization. “Do we need more toilet bowl cleaner? Who knows? I have no idea what’s up there. Better just grab some more…” And that’s when you run into a space issue. Now that this home owner has labelled sections on her shelves, she can better keep track of what she needs and doesn’t need to buy. Over time, these shelves should gain a little wiggle room as the family uses up their extras. Added just a bit of storage via hanging baskets on the right.

This is the best way I have found to hold my kids responsible for their chores without having to constantly repeat what their chores are. There are some good looking screen versions of this out there that include calendar features, but for now, this low tech, inexpensive version works great for us. Each day when the kids get home, the tabs are down. They simply flip them up when they’ve completed a task and the magnets hold them in place, which they find very satisfying.

When you have a small items, like individually wrapped snacks, that are always there and beg to be contained, a labeled bin is the way to go. When you have a more broad category, in which the items are constantly changing, sometimes a label on the shelf gets the job done and allows for more flexibility.

Wish you had more drawers in your kitchen? Add some! This small kitchen has only one drawer. One! So we measured one of the lower cabinets and added in stacking drawers. Bonus: there was enough room alongside the drawers to move the cutting boards from their home on the counter to inside the cabinet.
