Timothy E. Hutcheson, 63, of Fairfield, passed away at 8:31am on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. He had worked as a laborer in the oilfield for many years.

Tim was born on May 8, 1962, in Fairfield, IL to Eugene and Mary (Green) Hutcheson.

Survivors include his 35 year companion Kristi Williams of Fairfield, his children Candice (Hutcheson) Hennis of Olney, IL, Charlotte (Hutcheson) Strange of Mrytle Beach, SC, Baylee Hutcheson and Tyler Hutcheson both of Fairfield, nine grandchildren Joel Doris, James Hennis, Dylan Wiggins, Clayton Wiggins, Denver Brooks, Adalynn Keller, Hadlee Parker, Lynnex Hutcheson, and Tripp Hutcheson, his great grandchild Graysen Wiggins, and his sister Brenda Bates of Geff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Chuck Hutcheson.

Per Tim’s request, his body will be cremated with no formal services or burial at this time. The Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Lee Romine, 71, of Sims passed away at 11:04PM on Sunday September 21, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt Vernon. He had been a laborer with the Union working for Wilkin Insulation. Michael was born in Highland Park IL on December 13, 1953, to Houma Lee and Delores Marie (Michela) Romine.

Michael is survived by his wife- Tongsuk Dolly Romine of Sims; sons- Kevin (Jessica Waldrop) Downen of Fairfield, Allen (Corey) Downen of Yorkville IL, and Donnie (Whitley) Downen of Sims; daughter- Michelle Downen of Sims; twenty one grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; twin sister- Carol Lee (Donald Beard) Romine of Florida, and sister Alice Christine(Chris) Romine-Peterson of Oak Ridge TN.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, son- Ronnie Lee Downen, and grandson- Nicholas Carrol Downen.

Per Michael’s wishes, his body will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held from 5-7PM on Tuesday September 30, 2025, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home.

John R. Walker, 57, of Wayne City passed away 2:02PM on Saturday September 20, 2025, at Deaconess Illinois Crossroads Hospital in Mt Vernon. John was born in Fairfield on September 21, 1967, to Gary R. and Linda S. (Musgrave) Walker. John was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved reading, always had a smile, and loved helping other people.

John is survived by his parents- Gary and Linda Walker of Wayne City; sister- Stacy Andrews of Wayne City; niece- Katlyn (Levi) Watkinson; great nephew- Waylon Watkinson; aunts and uncles- Bobbee and Larry Theis, Toyzann Musgrave, Wanda and Brian Musgrave, Kathy Walker, and Debbie Walker; several cousins; honorary son- Brian Bumpus, honorary daughter- Genny (Mike) Cottrill, and honorary grandchildren also survive.

John was preceded in death by special friend- Brenda Bumpus; brother- Robert Walker; grandparents- Robert and Joan Musgrave, William “Sam” and Joyce Walker, and Don and JoAnn Simpson; uncles- Richard Walker, Steven Walker, Danny Walker, and Larry Walker.

John will be missed by everyone.

Maxine Lee, 99, of Fairfield, passed away at 7:17am on September 17, 2025, at Cisne Rehabilitation and Health Care. She had been a homemaker.

Maxine was born on March 3, 1926, in Springerton, IL, to Walter and Ida (Winder) Cushman. On November 23, 1943, she married the love of her life, Howard Lee, who preceded her in death.

Maxine had been a member of the Ellen Moore Mission for many years. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, making crafts, cross-stitching, and reading books. Maxine loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to sit down in the floor and play with them.

Survivors include her grandchildren Richard (Janie) Young, Chris (Lynde) Hickox, and Melissa Young all of Fairfield, and Nick Wuebbles of Mt. Vernon, IL, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard Lee, her daughters Ruth Ann Young and Ramona Wuebbles, a brother Floyd Cushman and her sister Rosemary Flexter.

Funeral services for Maxine Lee will be at 2:30pm on Monday, September 22nd, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial to following Hammack Cemetery in Springerton, IL. Jessie Keen, age 90, of Fairfield, Illinois passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was born on April 27, 1935, in Louisa, Kentucky, the daughter of Luther and Thelma (Miller)McHargue. She married Verl Keen August 7, 1987, and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2009. Jessie is survived by daughter Nikki (Robbie) Hale of Fairfield, Illinois, 3 stepchildren, Ron (Vickie) Keen of Ohio, Barbara (Gene) Johnson of Keenes, and David (Donna) Keen of Mt. Vernon , a sister Lois Hodges of Milford, Ohio. Two grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandsons, 2 nieces, 2 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. Jessie was a member of Ten Post Oak Church. Daddy has drilled his last well, he has found his last vein of oil. He took his rig to the yard and parked it. No longer hunting squirrel rabbit and deer. The fishing poles no longer strung. The garden tiller no longer tilling the soil for his 100-acre garden

He is now dancing on the streets of gold as he goes to his mansion. The Lord sent the angels to es**rt him home Tuesday September 16, 2025. He was greeted by loved ones that have gone before. Our hearts are grieving our loss but rejoicing in knowing he is finally home.

Norman Dean Mier was born September 10, 1935. The son of John Gerald Mier and Mary Magdalena Lovelette Mier at home in Oran, Missouri.

Norman enjoyed his time in the Army. Serving from 1958 to 1964. His main duty station was Hawaii where his father had served. He enjoyed telling about how he was there when they became a state and the celebration they had.

When he came back to the states, he married Mary Ellen Cox and moved to Boyleston Illinois going to work in the oilfield. He worked the oilfield until he retired but always made himself available to many oil companies to look at new prospects of hitting oil. He had a knowledge of rock formations and could tell if a well would hit or they needed to drill to the left right or go a little deeper to hit a vein. Together with his wife they raised 5 children.
Norman is survived by his son Norman Dean Mier, Jr, his wife Stephanie, of Marengo, IL. His daughter Tanya A. Caldwell and her husband Tim, of Evansville, IN. Felicia Kruse and her husband Justin, of Evansville, IN. Sisters Olive McCulley of Boyleston. Audra Weber of Foristell, MO. Gayle Rentsch, of Lake St Louis, Bertha Jett of O'Fallon, MO and brother Clyde of Dexter Missouri. Grandchildren Dean Caldwell (Tiffany,) Nathaniel Caldwell, Makiah Caldwell, Chris Mier(Amber), Melissa Mier(Brian), Jonathon Mier(Emily) Joseph Mier(Christy), James Mier (Jamie), Preston Mier, Courtney (Mark)Bristow, Chris Green. Great grand children Gabriel (Paige) & Thomas Caldwell, Skyler & Hannah Kruse, Colin & Cora Bristow, Emma Honer and Raden Ward, Great Great granddaughter Oaklynn Caldwell.

Norman was proceeded in death by his parents. His wife Mary, his daughter Kathy Ann Defayette. His brothers John G Mier and Homer D. Mier, great grandchildren Jeremiah, Josiah, Miriam, Lillyanne and Phoebe Kruse.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Dementia Society of America, American Cancer Society, Disabled American Vets, or Heart Association, and donations will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held Monday September 22 at 9:00am with services led by Bro. Wilford Musgrave at 10:30 AM at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Victory cemetery north of Boyleston with military rites conducted by Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. James W. Penrod, 57, of Fairfield, passed away at 5:59pm on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.

Jim was born on April 8, 1968, in Howell, Michigan, to Vera (Thompson) and Tom Smith. On April 6, 2013, he married the love of his life, Erica (Moore) Penrod.

Jim was a devoted son, father, husband, and grandpa. He was a man of deep faith. Jim was an active member of the Wesleyan Church of Fairfield where he shared in various ministries over the years. He volunteered his time in helping fight fires in McLeansboro for 15 years, prior to moving to Fairfield. He lived out the teaching of Christ daily, offering encouragement, lending a helping hand and walking humbly with God.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." His life was a testament to love, servitude and enduring faith.

Survivors include his mother Vera (Tom) Smith of McLeansboro, IL, his wife Erica Penrod and son Josh Penrod both of Fairfield, three daughters Laura (Tom) Wankum of St. Louis, MO, Sarah (Zac) Normansell of Dupo, IL, and Anne Marie Anderson (Gabe Robbins) of Fairfield, five grandchildren Capriyel Wankum, Delezar Wankum, Kayden Robbins, Mason Robbins, and Liam Aldridge, his brother Louis Penrod of South Dakota, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Millage and Edith Thompson and Aaron and Margaret Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, September 19th, at the Fairfield Wesleyan Church with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations can be made to the Fairfield Wesleyan Church or 8 Days of Hope and will be accepted at the funeral service or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Tracy Allen Vaughan, 64, of Fairfield passed away at 4:40PM on Wednesday September 10, 2025, at his residence. He was a manager at CDC. Tracy was born in Colorado Springs CO on August 15, 1961, to Pleasant and Francis Christine (Robertson) Vaughan SR.

Tracy is survived by his children- Holly (Jimmy) Lurz of Fairfield; April Vaughan of Fairfield, Tracy (Jasmine Willis) Vaughan II of Fairfield; Cody Vaughan of Flora; Autumn Vaughan of Carmi and Selina (Tyler Lee) Vaughan of Fairfield; seventeen grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister- Amanda Vaughan of Clay City; brothers- Doug Vaughan, Michael Vaughan of Mt Vernon IL, and Steven Vaughan of Mt Vernon IL; his special companion, his dog Milo; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Hayden Brown, sister Marilyn Rahn, and niece Josephine.

Tracy will be cremated, and the family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.

James Roscoe Lemons, 78, of Fairfield passed away at 10:05AM on Wednesday September 10, 2025, at his home.

James was born on May 10,1947 to James R lemons, Sr, and Mary Alice sheets. He was the owner of Bare Bunz Tanning Salon in Fairfield. James had a deep love for the simple joys in life- his horses and tractor, open road, camping, being a snowbird in Texas for the winter months and playing cards with the family. He enjoyed 4th of July family get togethers and great fireworks hosted by his brother-in-law Ron O’Daniel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barb, sisters Gladys Kiger and Maxine connerley. and brother Charles.

He is survived by his wife Donna Lemons; daughter Pamela Boulanger (Lorris) of Florida; grandchildren: Alexa and Adison of Florida, Nikolas of New York. He loved his grandchildren dearly even though he didn’t get to spend much time with them.
His Kentucky family-step daughter- Malinda Stone (mark); step granddaughters-Maghan Vansickle (Jonathan) Celia Stevens and Morgan Jack; step great grandchildren-Mariah O’Guin (Carson), Hailey Vansickle, Amelia Jackson and Brantley Newman; nieces and nephews; and his winter Texan travel buddies, niece Carol Helm and her husband Mike.

Carrie Jo (Rutger) Dagg, 46, of Cisne, passed away September 10, 2025, at her home.

Carrie was born October 2, 1978, in Fairfield, Illinois to Dale and Rhonda Rutger. She married Wayde Dagg on May 15, 1998. They celebrated 27 years together in marriage and were sweethearts since 1994. Carrie Jo touched the lives of everyone she met. She left behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will never be forgotten.

Carrie was the proud mother of four children: Karley Dagg, Konnor Dagg, Keller Dagg and Kordale Dagg. She is also survived by her stepfather and mother, Jerry and Rhonda (Harper) Peeples, sister, Kelli (Randy) Keen, stepbrothers, Mike (Tamara) Peeples and Jeff (Michelle) Peeples, mother-in-law, Christine Dagg, brothers-in-law, Kyle (Natalie) Dagg and Tyler (Brandi) Dagg, sister-in-law Lacey Dagg and fiancé Jim Gingerich and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and her beloved dog, Soco.

Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Dale Rutger, father-in-law, Robert Dagg, maternal grandparents, Raymond and Lois Harper and paternal grandparents, Lyle and Marie Rutger.

In Carrie’s diverse career, she served her community in a variety of roles. Most recently, she served as the Wayne County Coroner from 2020 to 2025, a position that showcased her dedication to public service and compassion for others. She was a beloved instructor at Frontier Community College, teaching GED, biology, physics, CPR, and first aid for over 20 years. Her passion for education touched the lives of countless students.

In the past, Carrie was a firefighter with the Rural Wayne City Fire Department. She also worked for the Clay County Advocate Press and Wayne County Press and worked with both the Clay and Wayne County Health Departments. Carrie also devoted her time and energy to the Junior Mules Football program and was a strong and loving presence in the lives of those who knew her. Carrie was involved in the Wayne County 4-H program and attended Merriam Community Church with her family.

As a Christian, Carrie Jo’s most important goal in life was sharing the love of Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her warmth and generosity.

Visitation will be held at Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home on Monday, September 15th from 5 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at Merriam Community Church on Tuesday, September 16th at 10 AM, with burial to follow in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the local charity, Beyond the Badge, or to the Junior Mules Football program, continuing her legacy of service to the community.

Richard “Grant” Hoskins, 92, of Geff, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Evansville, IN. Grant was born August 3, 1933, in Saunemin, Illinois to Guy T. and Hattie Faye Hoskins. He married Linda Brown in 1958. They celebrated 65 years together.

Grant lived a life of community service; he was a Korean War Veteran, owned and operated Hoskins’ Sunoco Service Station for decades before being elected Lamard Township Road Commissioner until his early retirement at the age of 84. Grant served on the Geff School Board and was a longtime member of the Geff Rural Fire Department and the Geff Ruritan Club. He loved nature and enjoyed walks in the woods, Sunday afternoon drives and feeding the squirrels, rabbits and a menagerie of birds congregating daily in the backyard.

He is survived by his daughters, Patti (Scott) Nickens of Evansville, Peggi (Ed) Bryant, Bellville, Tx, Susie (Scott) Wood of Fairfield. Son, Chris (Ladonna) Hoskins of Geff.

Grandchildren: Grayson (Scott) Hyde, Ian Nickens, Grant (Meredith) Nickens, Baili (Casey) Rhodes, Barkley (John) Donaho, Cassidy (Zac) Lofton, Christopher (Lesli) Hoskins, Clay (Chris) Hoskins, Micheal (Kassy) Hill, Bronson Wood, and Alec Wood.

Great Grandchildren: Cooper and Stella Rhodes, Iris and Archer Hyde, Elizabeth Donaho, Violet and Ellie Hoskins and Rebecca Lofton.

Grant was proceeded in death by his wife Linda, his parents, brothers – Joe Hoskins, Bill Hoskins and Guy Hoskins Jr., sisters – Martha Ziller, Mary Johnston, and Helen Hutchens.

Graveside services will be at 11AM on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Bestow Cemetery in Geff. There will be no visitation, friends and family are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Patsy was born on March 30, 1942, in Springerton, IL, to John Stallings and Maxine Rister. On July 13, 1963, she married the love of her life, Ray E. Musgrave.

Survivors include her husband Ray Musgrave of St. Charles, MO, her sons Stan (Lori) Musgrave of St. Louis, MO, and Anthony Musgrave of O’Fallon, MO, two grandchildren Calyb Musgrave and Michael Musgrave, her brother David (Trish) Rister of Princeton, IN, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Patsy Musgrave will be at 1pm on Friday, September 5th, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, IL, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
