Myth 2: Sleeping is a natural development and can’t be taught.

✨Parent-controlled (rocking, patting, nursing/feeding, contact/c-sleeping)

✨Child-controlled (lovey/stuffed animal, blanket, pacifier if over 8 months)

✨Parent-controlled sleep props are usually the ones that cause the most problems because the parent must always be present, in order for the child to sleep.

✨Removing a prop provides the child an opportunity to learn self soothing skills

Do you know when your baby is overtired?

✨Remember that every baby is unique, and individual differences may exist in how they express tiredness or alertness. Monitoring your baby's behavior and sleepy cues consistently will help you better understand their sleep needs.

sleep, but as melatonin levels rise in the evening it puts you into a state of quiet wakefulness that
helps promote sleep.”

✨Nowadays our eyes are flooded with artificial light from screens such as tv, laptops, smart phones and iPads.

✨Artificial light can interfere with melatonin production. Because of this it can be difficult for our brains to know when night is actually coming.

💡TIP: Be mindful of screens too close to bedtime.

Those of you who have little ones that have been struggling with sleep issues for a while have probably reached out for advice and tips, but maybe never thought about working with a sleep consultant. And yes, it is an investment but I think the possibility of knowing your child will be able to learn independent sleep skills that will have them sleeping through the night is well worth it.

Sleep hygiene refers to the things we do to ensure that we get good quality rest each and every night.

Yes it is important that our little ones get the best quality sleep they possibly can but when it comes to adults I have one question. Do you practice what you preach?

You find that your little one has been waking up at the wee hours of the morning…5:30am, 5am even 4:30am! Here are some things to consider when struggling with early morning wake ups.

✨Make sure the sleeping environment is conducive to a good night ‘s rest. Consider room temperature, noise levels and lighting.

✨Babies thrive on predictability and repetition. Establishing a consistent bedtime routine will set them up for success.

✨Bedtimes may need to be adjusted. An earlier bedtime can often combat early wake ups.

✨Too much daytime sleep can contribute to early morning wake ups.

✨Babies who have learned the skill of self soothing are more likely to go back to sleep independently if they wake up to early

✨If your baby has slept from 7pm-6:30am in the past, they are capable of doing so again. If you are shooting for 7am as the “norm” then anything earlier should be treated as a night wake up.
