Client Spotlight: Humboldt Sawmill Company

🏡 Coldwater Studio

Coldwater Studio is a compact, 1,024 square foot residential workspace in Studio City designed to feel both protected and open. Conceived by Los Angeles architect Casey Hughes, the studio balances privacy, daylight, and connection to its surroundings through a thoughtful exterior strategy.

The building is wrapped in 2” x 2” redwood slats that screen the façade, providing shade while allowing air to circulate through a 4” gap between the cladding and exterior wall. This assembly helps regulate interior temperature and creates shifting patterns of light and shadow that soften the structure’s presence.

Redwood continues at the north-facing pergola, positioned above a glass-enclosed balcony that brings daylight deep into the space without sacrificing privacy. Left untreated, the wood has been allowed to naturally patina to a soft gray, reducing maintenance while reinforcing a relationship to the landscape.

Client Spotlight: Cambridge Architectural Mesh

🏢 Thornton Flats

Designed as an urban infill project in a quiet South Austin neighborhood, Thornton Flats uses a highly graphic metal mesh façade to create a relaxed South Austin feel and emphasize indoor outdoor living. A custom leaf pattern gives the building a strong street presence, replacing a typical building number with a distinctive visual identity.

Using Cambridge Architectural Mesh’s Mid-Balance Mesh, the team created a layered, three dimensional effect by powder coating the stainless steel mesh in an antique bronze tone while painting darker leaf forms on the wall behind it. Subtle color changing lighting adds depth and visual interest at night, further enhancing the façade.

Client Spotlight: Panel Built Incorporated

For this project, new landing shelters were required to support aviation landings while meeting strict durability, mobility, and color standards consistent with established aviation requirements. Panel Built partnered closely with C.W. Ferrell to ensure every detail aligned with on-site needs.

The result was two custom welded steel landing shacks, each engineered for long-term durability and trailer mounted to allow for mobility across the site. Finished in standard aviation orange and white, the shelters integrate seamlessly into the airfield environment while providing reliable protection and functionality.

Each structure features a standing seam roof, through-wall HVAC, and a compact yet efficient guard booth configuration designed to support daily operations in demanding conditions.

Designed to be both iconic and environmentally responsible, the project combines cutting-edge sustainability with a refined, high-end fan experience.

As a key contributor to the stadium’s interior aesthetic and performance, over 200,000 square feet of porcelain tile was installed using a premium tile installation system from Custom Building Products. The system supported the scale and complexity of the venue while delivering the durability, precision, and long-term performance required for a world-class sports facility.

Cape Cod 5 set out to create a true gateway building for Plymouth. Kalwall’s translucent systems supported that vision by introducing balanced daylight and a clear architectural identity. A continuous light monitor runs the full length of the structure and fills the interior with soft, even light. At night, it becomes a recognizable glow for this key corner of the community.
