Respiratory Fun Fact:

The lungs and windpipe were important symbols in ancient Egypt....

In humans and other animals, the lungs and windpipe must work together to provide the tissues and cells of the body with oxygen. The ancient Egyptians understood the importance of this cohesion for survival, and created a hieroglyph that depicts the lungs attached to the windpipe, to symbolize the unity between upper and lower Egypt.

💨 Breathe Better, Live Better! 💨

Did you know your diaphragm does most of the work when it comes to breathing? But conditions like asthma and COPD can cause your lungs to lose their natural elasticity, trapping stale air and making it harder to breathe. Over time, this can lead to your body relying on other muscles, reducing oxygen levels and energy for daily activities.

Regular breathing exercises can make a big difference! They help clear trapped air, improve oxygen levels, and get your diaphragm back in action.

Start your journey to healthier lungs today by exploring these exercises: Lung Breathing Exercises.

Stay proactive, and give your lungs the care they deserve! 💙

Like aerobic exercise improves your heart function and strengthens your muscles, breathing exercises can make your lungs more efficient.

As Respiratory Care Week wraps up, we recognize our exceptional Respiratory Therapists and their dedication to NJRA’s mission. Here are some snippets of what they value most about their roles and their commitment to patient care!

Patricia Davis, Director in Westfield, NJ: “I love being an RT working on a vent unit, weaning patients off their vents, working to have their trachs removed and finally watching some of these patients walk out of our buildings. I have many great memories and I stay in touch with many of our patients and their families.”

Charone Morman, Director in Towson, MD: “The ability to make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents is incredibly fulfilling. Each day, I am reminded of the importance of our work as I witness the resilience and strength of those we care for. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the opportunity to build lasting relationships with our residents. In a long-term care setting, we have the privilege of getting to know each individual on a personal level. This continuity of care allows us to tailor our treatments to meet their unique needs and preferences, fostering a sense of trust and comfort.”

Patrick Drummond, Respiratory Therapist in Pennsylvania: “NJRA gives me the opportunity to enhance the experiences of residences and nursing staff by elevating respiratory care with compassion and empathy. I get to validate the respiratory needs at each facility I walk into and bring clarity to residents and staff – and a sense of fulfillment for my work.”

Thank you to each of our Respiratory Therapists for their expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence.
