“Are you excited?”
It’s the question every graduating senior hears when talking about the transition to college but the answer is rarely that simple.

Grateful to be part of a webinar with GapWell and YMSL, creating space for an honest conversation about this important transition.

During the session, I had the opportunity to interview a college senior and a recent graduate about their experiences navigating the shift from high school to college: the excitement of independence, the pressure of feeling like everyone else has it figured out, and the many emotions that come with stepping into a new chapter.

They then turned the tables and interviewed me, bringing in the therapist and parent perspective: the mix of pride and grief that can arise during this stage, the challenge of balancing support and independence, and the importance of staying present during senior year while preparing for what’s ahead.

What stood out most is how much this moment represents a transition not only for students, but for parents as well.

Conversations like these reinforce how important it is to create spaces where young people and families can talk honestly about the emotional side of these milestones.

Grateful to partner with communities that value these kinds of meaningful discussions.

For many, Memorial Day marks the start of summer, BBQs and sales. And while those moments matter, I hope we can also pause to remember the deeper meaning behind this day.

Ben and I were planning to marry in June 2010, but on 10/2/2009, two men in uniform came to my door to tell me he wasn’t coming home. CPT Benjamin Sklaver was killed by a su***de bomb in Afghanistan.

Ben was a proud Jewish soldier who saw his service as a humanitarian mission—to lead with integrity and a genuine desire to bring peace, even in conflict. His spirit inspires me every day.

I’m thinking of all who are affected by war—across generations and around the world. In may lifetime, from 9/11 to today, our world has and is experiencing so much pain and violence. The weight of grief is carried by so many, in ways both seen and unseen.

There’s no timeline in grief, because love is always with us. I strive to honor Ben’s legacy by showing up each day with integrity, service, and kindness—doing my best to bring a little more peace into the world.

Please, this Memorial Day, take a moment to remember the soldiers who did not come home.

Thank you for reading and thank you for remembering Ben.
