Community Nurse is a nonprofit, independent home care agency providing visiting nurse, hospice, private care, and wellness services to southeastern Massachusetts since 1916. In alignment with our mission to bring compassionate healthcare services home, we provide a range of comprehensive health care and social services to meet patient needs through personalized care in the community and within the

privacy of home. Importantly, Community Nurse offers all members of our community access to quality healthcare no matter the economic environment, amount of insurance reimbursement, or complexity of illness. We strive to exceed expectations and continue to develop innovative programs and services to meet community health needs. Community Nurse was named in 2019 as one of the top 100 home care agencies in the country by HomeCare Elite and received five stars (the highest ranking) from the CMS for patient outcomes.

Our talented team of Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) work closely together to help patients regain strength, adapt to changes, and return to their daily routines, safely and confidently at home.

Whether recovering from illness, surgery, or injury, our goal is to support each person in reaching their baseline, rebuilding independence, and staying right where they belong at home.

Community Nurse recently hosted a heartwarming planting event at Vantage Health & Rehab of New Bedford, made extra special with the help of our amazing hospice volunteers. With potting soil donated by Waring-Sullivan/ Rock Funeral Homes, cheerful flowerpots painted by staff members from First Citizens' Federal Credit Union, and vibrant blooms donated by Boulevard Funeral Home, residents and volunteers came together to plant, laugh, and connect.

Moments like these are what Community Nurse is all about engaging with our neighbors, building meaningful relationships, and supporting joyful, therapeutic experiences for those we care for.

A big thank you to our partners and volunteers for making this event blossom!

At Community Nurse, we believe in the healing power of art whether it’s inspiring joy, relieving stress, or creating meaningful moments for those we care for.

This July, we’re excited to partner once again with K&A Creations in Fairhaven to honor World Watercolor Month! K&A Creations has generously supported our mission in the past by donating art kits to our Social Visit Program, helping us bring creativity and connection to the individuals we serve.

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned painter, take time to explore your creative side. If you are interested in taking a watercolor class, please see the link below.

Caring for a loved one can be one of life’s most meaningful roles but it can also be emotionally and physically exhausting. Caregiver burnout is real, and no one should feel like they must go it alone.

That’s why Community Nurse is proud to be part of a network of support alongside our partners at Coastline Elderly and Council on Aging, offering resources and support groups for caregivers throughout the South Coast.

In-Person Groups:
Caregivers Support Group at Fairhaven Council on Aging,
(508) 979-4029. First Thursday of the month, 1–2:00 PM.

Caregiver Support Group at the Dartmouth Council on Aging
First Thursday of the month, 1:00 – 2:30 PM. Please contact Stephanie Gibson from Coastline Elderly at 774-510-5209.

You don’t have to carry the weight alone. These groups offer a safe space to connect, share experiences, and find support from others who understand.
