Playing multiple sports and delaying when to choose one isn't the only path. Here's how to make the individual (and emotional) decision to specialize.

This is the hardest thing about what I do. Being away from the biggest parts of my heart!

20 years from now…

When that championship game your 10 year old’s team lost is long gone…

When that ref’s questionable call in that one tournament is a distant memory…

When your player’s spot in the lineup that one year no longer matters…

What will your athlete remember about the role you played in their sports experience?

Because sometimes?

We forget this is all going to be a distant memory.

The moments in which we can get so caught up in the heat of the game or season — will be just a small dot on the journey one day. (Heck, will it even matter in a few months?)

Sometimes it’s the only reminder I need to pull back on the emotion, pull back on my own competitiveness — and just let my kid’s sports stories play themselves out…

… and along the way remember the only character I’m supposed to be in their book is the one who is the first to celebrate the good, the one always there to help them learn from the hard …
.. and the one who loves them every step of the way.

So true, but we don’t tend to think of it from this perspective when living through it. It was definitely true for me a long time ago and am so grateful for the failures along the way. I would not be where I am today without the struggles and bad choices.

As a veteran, I just wanted to take a moment this Veterans Day to say thank you to all who’ve served — and to reflect on what it means.

I served in the USN and I know firsthand that the uniform brings both pride and sacrifice. Today is the day to honour that: the late nights, the long missions, the times away from family, and the quiet moments on home soil.

To my fellow veterans: I salute you. Whether you served during peacetime or wartime, your willingness to step up matters.
To those still serving: stay strong, stay safe, and know you’ve got a grateful nation behind you.
And to everyone back home: thank you for your support — it means more than you know.

Today I’ll be thinking about camaraderie, the ones I served with, and the spirit of service that binds us all.

🇺🇸 “Not self, but country.”

Here's to the seniors playing their sport for the last time.

The ones who grew up hearing early alarms for Saturday morning games... and getting home from practice after dark.

The ones who spent weekends at tournaments... and years building friendships on the sidelines, on the bus rides and at team dinners.

The ones who wore the same number from the time their jersey hung to their knees...to the moments it was announced next to their name in their high school games.

The ones who held their tears until the car ride home after the tough losses... and got emotional with their teammates when the buzzer sounded on a big win.

The ones who put on the jersey for the last time, but are taking with them a version of themselves shaped by their days wearing it.

Here's to you, seniors.

You gave it everything.
You soaked in the moments.
You showed up for your teammates.
You stepped into your bravery.

You grew up with the game, and now it's time for the lessons you learned from it to live on through you.

The sport may be ending...

But your story?

It's just beginning.
