Our YMHFA is a program taught by AmeriCorps members/Volunteers who are sacrificing a year of time and service to their community to spread this amazing message to you. Many of our volunteers already have successful full-time careers and all have a college degree. All instructors passed the 5-day training course and are certified to teach YMHFA. Send us a message if you would like to take the cours

e for FREE which includes the course manual. We teach groups between 20-30 participants at a time so if you have a group ready to go send us your contact information and we will make the appropriate arrangements. If you are an individual we can put together a class for you or add you to one that has open slots. You are more likely to encounter someone-friend, family member, student, neighbor, or member of the community -in an emotional or mentall crisis than someone having a heart attack. Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self help care. Anyone can take the 8-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid course, but it is ideally designed for adults who work with young people, ages 12-18 - teachers, coaches, leaders of faith communities, social workers, and other caring citizens. We are building a community of adults who want to impact the lives of adolescents who face the challenges of mental illness, substance abuse, and eating disorders by becoming Mental Health First Aiders. Our members are committed to living lives that server our youth by helping add protective factors to their lives and to increase a youth's chance of becoming more resilient to any potential crisis.
