86% of patients with dry eye disease have meibomian gland dysfunction 🤯

The meibomian glands that line our eyelids are responsible for producing the oily layer of the tear film. If these oils are not produced properly, our tears evaporate faster than they should, causing dry eye disease. If left untreated, dysfunction of the meibomian glands can cause irreversible gland death and severe symptoms that are incredibly difficult to manage.

Every patient receives this imaging as part of our dry eye evaluations to determine the state of meibomian gland health and recommend preventative treatment.
