Residents and members of the community from all three of our Village communities came together on April 22 during Volunteer Appreciation Week to celebrate, recognize, and cheers our Volunteers at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. With a delicious, springtime spread catered by our amazing Dining Services team, we take this moment to give back a mere fraction of all the time, effort, and kindness that our volunteers gift to us on a daily basis.

Volunteers at the Village of St. Edward come to us as members of the community, students of schools or organizations in our neighboring communities, and even residents who reside at our locations. Community volunteers alone, in the year of 2025, contributed over 2,500 hours of their time to service at the Village. This totals to over 100 days of service! And that number doesn’t even include all of the untracked hours our resident volunteers contribute every single day! So, today, during National Volunteer Appreciation week, join us in cheers-ing our volunteers who make our residents’, their families’, and our staffs’ days a little brighter and lighter! Cheers!

If you, or someone you know, is interested in volunteering at the Village of St. Edward, feel free to reach out to Hattie Ruleman, Volunteer Coordinator, at hattie.ruleman@vased.org or 234-466-7132

Congratulations to Brandy Hutchins, server, and Ja'Nya Hill Buck, resident assistant, for being March's Making a Difference Winners!

Brandy and Ja'Nya were nominated for the Making a Difference award by representing the Village values of Benevolence, Respect, Integrity, Commitment, and Kindness. Below is what was said with their nominations:

Brandy: “She is a blessing to our team. She is courteous & she always makes sure the residents have what they want. Residents always come to her with their needs, and she always assists them with a smile. She exemplifies the core values of St. Eds. If I were to have a business, she is the type of employee I would want on my team. She has a great work ethic, she is dependable and they are a great people person! For this reason, I believe that she truly "makes a difference" for St. Eds!”

Ja'Nya: “Always a happy, professional advocate for her residents! She is a great team player who is always willing to jump in and work extra hours and shifts.”

Please help us in congratulating Brandy and Ja'Nya for the work they do for The Village and our residents! 😀

Congratulations to Crystal Williams, Laundry worker, and Kevin Delagrange, chauffeur, for being February's Making a Difference Winners!

Crystal and Kevin were nominated for the Making a Difference Award by representing The Villages' values of Benevolence, Respect, Integrity, Commitment, and Kindness. Below is what was said with their nominations:

“Crystal does an exceptional job of taking care of the laundry and residents clothes. She is always working extra to make sure the residents items are clean and available to them!”

“Along with being dedicated and efficient in getting residents to appointments, Kevin organizes poker games and other activities, including the weekly men's cafe discussion group and monthly men's breakfast. He also delivers newspapers each morning. Most notably, Kevin recently performed acts of kindness for a resident. The resident unfortunately, lost a prized keepsake. Having seen it, Kevin tracked down a replica of the keepsake and facilitated replacing it for the resident. That same resident was having issues with her car and Kevin called and waited for AAA. No doubt Kevin has done other such things for residents as he is always willing to do whatever is necessary to make life better at The Village.”

Please help us in again Congratulating Crystal and Kevin for all that they do for The Village and our residents!
