October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Join us as we celebrate workers with disabilities and discuss the importance of disability inclusion. Thanks, National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) and CDC!

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This is a month for celebrating workers with disabilities and the value they add to workplaces. NDEAM’s purpose is for workplaces to commit to making sure disabled workers have access to good jobs, every month of every year. That’s the idea behind this year’s theme: “Access to Good Jobs for All.”

NACDD’s Disability Inclusion Network for To***co Control and Cancer Prevention believes that to have ‘good jobs for all’ we need to have healthy workplaces for all.

Follow along this month as we celebrate NDEAM and share tips on how workplaces can best support employees with disabilities to make sure they are happy, healthy, and successful.

Image Description: A navy-blue background with text “National Disability Employment Awareness Month”, and website dol.gov/odep. Various photos of people with and without disabilities in their workplaces. “Access to good jobs for All Means a Healthy Workplace for All.” An image of a navy-blue road. This summer we had the pleasure of working with Simon Bonenfant on several projects. Simon wears many hats: he is a performer, an Outreach Coordinator, a podcast host, and a consultant.

One project we worked on together was a deep dive analysis into various apps and technology interfaces utilizing artificial intelligence. We wanted to understand how these companies are using AI to enhance healthcare and assist the blind and low vision community. Thank you, Simon!

This summer, our student intern Julia interviewed Natalie Barnhard-Castrogiovanni, the Founder and President of Motion Project Foundation.

After her own spinal cord injury in 2004, Natalie experienced massive gaps in insurance coverage, services, and communication. Through founding her own nonprofit the Motion Project, Natalie has been able to provide a center where individuals can receive specialized care and training with spinal cord injuries.

Natalie's story and experience is inspiring and empowering. Thank you to our amazing intern for introducing us to Natalie and thank you Natalie for sharing your story with us!
