Congratulations to Fairmont Medical Center’s March Employee of the Month, Alexander Newman, R.N.!

Though Alex only joined us as a registered nurse six months ago, he has quickly earned the admiration of his colleagues. In fact, he told us his amazing and supportive coworkers are his favorite part about working at FMC.

Patient care is difficult but rewarding, but teamwork and camaraderie makes even the most challenging days better, he said. Alex credits “their ability to support one another when things get a bit rough, and their willingness to do so time and time again.”

When not caring for his FMC patients, Alex is busy reading books, playing video games, spending time with his wife and cats, and teaching students enrolled in the paramedic program at Pierpont Community & Technical College.

Jim Fawley recently became the very first patient to complete chemotherapy at FMC, and our team is so happy for him. Patients like Jim make our entire team proud. 🔔🔔🔔

In honor of Galentine’s Day, let’s hear it for FMC’s Administrative Assistant for the Emergency Department and Surgical Services and Employee of the Month, Crystal Willams!

After 18 years with WVU Hospitals, Crystal is a friendly and familiar face. She has worked at FMC for a little over a year.

When asked what she loves about her job, Crystal says she finds it fulfilling to support an amazing team in ways that is not always seen or even known, but significant to those departments.

“I love making a true difference and giving that extra "something special", so that my team feels supported and know they can count on me,” she said. “I love that there is a "family feel" here at FMC and that there is a true concern for one another. When one of us is hurting, in need or maybe celebrating something special we come together to support and lift that one up, with an encouraging word, sometimes a hug or a listening ear.”

Outside of FMC, Crystal’s family is very important to her. She’s a loving wife of almost 30 years, mother to two grown children, and grandmother to two little ones. She also enjoys going to church and reading her Bible.

Of her eight years working with WVU Medicine, Katie has spent three years at FMC.

Katie loves getting to know our patients, their families, and feeling like she gets to play a part in making a difference in their lives.

When not caring for your Marion County neighbors, the mom to three boys enjoys getting to spend time with her family.

If you’re “seeing red” today, it’s for good reason. The first Friday of February is Wear Red Day, an annual observance in support of heart health awareness. As heart disease remains the leading cause of death in West Virginia, there’s no better time to educate yourself about risks, signs, and symptoms of the often silent killer.
