Introducing Fairmont Medical Center’s April Employee of the Month, Jama Welty, RN!

Of her nine years as an employee, Jama has spent last year with us working as a case manager.

“Healthcare is a fluid field that is ever changing,” she said. “I love getting to be a part of the progress. My coworkers know I am all about growth, education, streamlining, and advancing the technology.”

Jama’s favorite part of her job is the genuine love people in her department have for our patients.

“I love getting to work alongside people who have a passion for their job and a push to do their best,” Jama added.

Outside of work, Jama is a mom to two teenage boys, Graison and Braedon, and is the wife of a Fairmont City firefighter, who she says spoils her more than she deserves. (NOTE: You deserve it, lady!)

As a family, they love camping, hunting, hammocking, off-roading, traveling, dirt bike and quad racing, and any outdoor activity.

Congratulations, Jama!!

FMC staff members were proud to take part in last week’s West Fairmont Middle School Career Fair, where they talked with students in 5-8th grades about nursing roles.

Natalia Parker, RN, helped the students hone their listening skills while taking their own blood pressures. Clinical preceptor Holly Keller, RN, taught the students how to use a combat application tourniquet as part of the Stop the Bleed program, and nurse educator Laura Mileto, BSN, RN, taught students how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

You never know when these potentially lifesaving skills will come in handy, and we hope some of the students were inspired to pursue rewarding careers in healthcare!

Congratulations to Fairmont Medical Center’s March Employee of the Month, Alexander Newman, R.N.!

Though Alex only joined us as a registered nurse six months ago, he has quickly earned the admiration of his colleagues. In fact, he told us his amazing and supportive coworkers are his favorite part about working at FMC.

Patient care is difficult but rewarding, but teamwork and camaraderie makes even the most challenging days better, he said. Alex credits “their ability to support one another when things get a bit rough, and their willingness to do so time and time again.”

When not caring for his FMC patients, Alex is busy reading books, playing video games, spending time with his wife and cats, and teaching students enrolled in the paramedic program at Pierpont Community & Technical College.

We’re so happy you’re here, Alex!
