Lakyn’s Care A non-profit Organization (tax deductible)

Lately, we’ve had more and more individuals walk through our doors for wig fittings — brave women and men facing some of the hardest days of their lives.

For many, losing their hair isn’t “just hair.” It’s identity. It’s privacy. It’s the moment cancer becomes visible to the world. Sitting in that chair, trying on a wig for the first time, there are often tears — sometimes from grief, sometimes from relief. And when they look in the mirror and see themselves again… even just a glimpse… it matters more than words can explain.

But as the need has grown, donations have slowed.

Every wig gifted, every care package given, is made possible because someone in this community chose to care. These services are not small gestures — they are confidence restored, dignity protected, and hope strengthened during life-threatening battles.

If you are able to help, donations can be dropped off or mailed to:

214 N Park St.
Fairmont, MN 56031

You can also donate online.

We are also hoping to create small craft bags filled with simple supplies for patients at the cancer center — something to keep their hands busy and their minds distracted during the many long hours of treatment. If you have ideas or would like to contribute supplies, we would love your help.

To those who have already supported this mission — thank you. You are part of every smile in the mirror. You are part of every moment someone feels like themselves again. And that impact is immeasurable. 💛

My cancer journey!
Jeanette S. Nelson
In Sept of 1991 I was diagnosed with Liposarcoma, it is cancer of fatty tissue, I underwent a
6 1/2 hour surgery of the abdomen in which they could not remove all of the tumor at the University of MN! In beginning of 1994 I was told the mass had grown but there was no more they could do!
I got a referral to go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester Mn in April of 1994, there I underwent 25 radiation treatments then in June of 1994 I underwent 11 1/2 hour surgery! Then in December of 2018 diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent a 8 hour surgery in Feb 2019. Then in the fall of 2021 the liposarcoma masses grew again where I underwent another 6 hour surgery. In 2022 the pancreatic cancer metastasized to my lungs, I underwent 6 radiation treatments, so far it has not spread. Now I learned the liposarcoma masses have grown and I will be meeting with my team of doctors to determine my treatment plans.

Jeanette has never had a benefit held for her in all these years. She has hosted a relay for life. She continues to fight and never wants people to feel sorry for her. She is always giving and wanting to do things for others.

Jeanette use to have horses and had to sell them when her health started going down hill, she also had a dream of swimming with dolphins.

Lakyn’s Care made both of these possible with the help of people in our community.
