May is Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Awareness Month! This global recognition event educates communities about this rare genetic disorder and raises support for the one million people living with it worldwide.

Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) is a genetic condition that causes non-cancerous tumors or lesions to grow throughout the body, including the brain, eyes, lungs, heart, kidneys, and skin. Symptoms of TSC can begin in infancy, and symptoms can vary from person to person depending on the size or location of the tumors. While there is currently no cure for TSC, treatments can help manage symptoms.

This Memorial Day, it is our honor to remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to protect the freedoms we hold dear.

Aveanna patient Maya has been an incredible fighter from day one.

While she was still in utero, she was diagnosed with a neural tube defect in her lower spine and underwent a rare intrauterine procedure to correct it. She arrived early at 35 weeks and needed a VP shunt shortly after birth to help manage pressure on her brain. Even early on, her care team and family saw small signs of strength—little movements that showed she was already pushing forward.

A few weeks after leaving the hospital, Maya began showing signs of increased pressure again and had to return for another procedure. During that time, she also received a tracheostomy and began using a ventilator. Her next few months were spent in the hospital, with progress coming slowly and measured in very small steps.

After three months, Maya was able to come home, where she is now cared for by her parents and her Aveanna nurse, Bailey. Today, at just four months old, she’s continuing to grow and make progress at home, supported by a team that is fully committed to her care.

We could not be happier to welcome Maya and her family to Aveanna! Thank you to Nurse Bailey and all of our Aveanna clinicians who bring consistency, skill, and compassion—not just in critical moments, but every day in the home.

May is Pediatric Feeding Disorder Awareness Month. At Aveanna, we’re proud to shine a light on Pediatric Feeding Disorders (PFD) and the ways they impact children and families across the country.

PFD is the impaired intake of adequate food and liquid, which affects a child's ability to grow or meet their nutritional needs. More than 1 in 37 children under five in the U.S. are affected.

Our Aveanna Medical Solutions team is honored to partner with families of children with PFD, walking alongside them with specialized support every step of the way.

Maizi lives with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and pulmonary hypertension. He also relies on a G-tube, trach, and ventilator. Through it all, he continues to show incredible resilience!
