Come meet one of our OTs at ExERIEnce expERIEnce Children's Museum this Friday at 11:00 while she hosts the Little Learners activity!

What do you do if your child becomes overly upset about loud noises, changes in routines, overly focused on one or two types of play? Dislike for textures and/or variety of foods?

Occupational therapy can often help families support children with sensory processing difficulties.

Sensory processing is a critical aspect of early intervention for children with sensory differences.

Read Early Intervention's Occupational Therapy services aim to support children's development during the critical early years by addressing your child's sensory processing differences. These services can include sensory diets, which are specific and individualized activities scheduled into a child's day to assist with regulation of activity levels, attention, and adaptive responses.

Read Early intervention can dramatically alter a child's developmental trajectory by providing the necessary support and strategies to manage sensory processing challenges. Improving these skills can help school performance later in your child's life.

Join us for a supportive and welcoming Autism Play Group at We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym – Erie. This dedicated play session is designed to provide children with a safe, sensory-friendly environment where they can move, explore, and build confidence at their own pace.

During this two-hour session, children have full access to our specialized sensory equipment, including swings, climbing structures, and open play areas designed to promote motor development, social interaction, and self-regulation.

While the kids play, parents and caregivers have the opportunity to connect with other families, share experiences, and build meaningful community relationships in a space that understands and supports neurodiverse needs.

This is a good reminder of what can help your child shift during a meltdown.

Good advice on the W sit ..

Good advice on the W sit ..

Why do children sit in the W position?
Why does your child always sit like this?
(It’s not just a habit.)

“They just feel comfortable.”

Not exactly.

Children choose positions that give them stability - not correct posture.

What does it mean

W-sitting gives:
• a very wide base of support
• no need for balance
• no trunk work

So the body doesn’t have to control itself.

Consequences

Over time it may lead to:
• weaker core muscles
• poorer balance
• delayed coordination
• in-toeing walking
• clumsiness during sport

What to do

Don’t just say “sit properly”.

Change the environment:
• side sitting
• long sitting
• sitting on a stool/step
• kneeling positions

The body learns through experience.

Posture is not taught by words.
It’s taught by movement.

📌 Stability first → better movement later
