According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second leading cause of death among Hispanic people, accounting for 17% of deaths. Compared with non-Hispanic Whites, Hispanic men and women are:

* Less likely to be diagnosed with the most common cancers: lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate.

* More likely to develop cancer in the liver, stomach, and cervix. These cancers are linked with infectious agents, such as HPV, and are largely preventable.

In honor of World Cancer Research Day, we recognize all of our amazing MCA Clinical and Major Clinical Research Partners and the clinical research providers at those sites. We thank each one of them for the work they do to improve the lives of patients with cancer now and down the road. The MCA appreciates the efforts of the many staff members at our Clinical and Major Clinical Research Partner sites who are involved with enrolling participants in cancer research studies.

We also want to recognize MCA's fantastic clinical trials team - Andrea Watson, BSN, RN, OCN, CCRP, clinical trials director; Heather Anderson, BSN, RN, clinical research nurse coordinator; and Christi Baron, MS, CCRP, clinical trials project manager - for all they do to help bring cancer clinical trials to communities throughout Kansas and western Missouri.
