Mr. Rathbone is the Owner and Director for Developmental Support Associates, LLC (DSA), founded in 2001. DSA is licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services to provide in-home services for children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual disability in Virginia. DSA serves individuals with developmental, intellectual, mental health, and behavioral concerns, as well as their families and providers. DSA also serves families and providers in Maryland, where George previously served for a dozen years as a consultant to the ARC of Southern Maryland’s Behavior Support Services program, funded by Developmental Disabilities Administration. Prior to his graduate studies, Mr. Rathbone worked as a teacher and then as a teacher/director of local early childhood programs. Rathbone volunteer activities include presenting on development and positive behavior support in the ARC of Northern Virginia’s Transition Series, and his team also has provided regular student activities during those events. In 2011, DSA received the Jessica Burmester Volunteer award for this work. Volunteer efforts range from assisting local disability advocacy groups to travelling internationally to help design a system of psychosocial supports for HIV/AIDS orphans in Botswana, Africa. Since the pandemic he has provided a free webinar and twice month parent support groups. Rathbone served as the DC DDA’s Director of Quality Assurance, and later as the Director of Clinical Services from 2001 to 2005. He taught undergraduate and graduate art educators in psychology and sociology for 5 years at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, where he also acted as a liaison to public schools. Rathbone has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on topics related to Positive Behavior Support, and he has published in a peer reviewed professional journal on issues related to disability and social justice.
