Never judge a person caring for a loved one with dementia who breaks down over something small.

Because those tears aren’t really about the small moment — they’re about the memory shifts, the repeated questions, the loss of recognition, and the quiet grief they carry every single day.

They’re not crying over the situation in front of them.
They’re crying for everything they’ve been holding inside.

And that kind of love + loss at the same time is heavy. 💛

POV: You’re a caregiver… and today is one of those rare, beautifully easy days. ✨

Everyone slept well.
Breakfast is calm.
There’s laughter in the room instead of confusion.

They take your hand.
They say your name.
They actually eat the whole meal.

No rushing.
No tears.
No constant redirection.

Just connection. Just patience. Just peace. 💛

And for a moment, you’re not just managing the day —
you’re fully present in it.

It doesn’t happen every shift…
but when it does, it reminds you exactly why you chose this work.

It’s so important to focus on our loved ones as well as ourselves during meal time take the time…so sit down and eat with them. This will not only encourage them to eat as they are likely to mirror what you do, but you can also observe their eating patterns. Are they swallowing? OK, are they pushing their food around, are they holding and using utensils properly? If you notice any changes, you can bring it to the Dr’s attention and be their best advocate. You’ve got this.!

🛁 “They Don’t Want to Shower” – Navigating Hygiene Issues in Dementia

💬 “She hasn’t showered in days.”
💬 “He says he already did… but he didn’t.”
💬 “They get angry when I even bring it up.”

👉 This is so common with dementia. And it’s not because they’re being difficult. It’s because:
• 🧠 They may forget they need to
• 🥶 They may feel cold or afraid of water
• 🚿 The shower may feel unsafe or overwhelming
• 😞 They may feel embarrassed needing help

🛠️ Try this:
💡 Call it “spa time” or “a warm rinse”
🪞Let them help set things up
👕 Use warm towels & pre-heated bathroom
📅 Create a routine so it’s expected
💬 Praise gently: “You must feel so fresh now!” #

❤️ Be patient. It’s not about forcing—it’s about helping them feel safe and in control.
