It's finally Autumn! Are you looking for something to keep you warm?

How about trying a cup of organic medicinal tea?
Great for drinking while wrapped in a blanket reading your favorite book or binge-watching your favorite show!

Rows of tulsi, or holy basil as it is also called. One of the traditional herbs used for generations as part of both Traditional Chinese and Ayuvedic medicine. I drink Tulsi tea daily. It may be my favorite herb I grow.

The other day I harvested blue vervain. Its a tall plant, some of the stalks were taller than me. I decided to go cut it in the late evening because it had been so hot. So, I was racing the setting sun. While I was working the red tailed hawk that nests in a nearby tree was flying back and forth overhead screeching. I guess she was telling me to move on. Anyway, according to western herbalism, blue vervain has a calming effect when consumed. It is drying and will soon be available on the web site.

Yesterday was way too hot to spend much time working outside so I used the time to catch up on bee related projects. I spent the afternoon assembling frames. For those unfamiliar with beekeeping, the frames are arranged inside the hive boxes and help keep the honey combs in order as the bees build them. A thin sheet of beeswax, called foundation, is put inside the frame and the bees build their comb on that thin sheet. Bees have to consume about 8 pounds of honey to produce one pound of wax, so comb building is a major ongoing project in any beehive.

Rain rain rain. I shouldn't complain because the fields needed it, but it also means I will soon be doing battle with weeds. Anyway, since I can't work outside I took the opportunity to write a new blog post about brewing tea. Check it out at www.bramble-t-farm.com. The blog's heading is Herbs Bees & Berries. Let me know what you think

Rows of catnip almost ready to harvest. Most people don't think catnip is edible (or in this case drinkable), but it is. Catnip is a member of the mint family and can be used to make a delicate flavored tea. While this catnip isn't quite ready yet, we still have a small amount from our last harvest.

Calendula is one of my favorite crops we grow. They bloom starting around June and keep going through the summer. They have to be picked every day, but they are worth the effort. Like a field of sunshine.

07/28/2017

We have been harvesting calendula flowers and milk thistle for a few weeks. They will be dry and ready for sale in a few days. Skullcap, catnip, tulsi, and evening primrose will be right behind them.

Our Beginnings

Bramble Trampler Farm, LLC began as just a dream in the minds of Daniel and Dawn Tinney for a heavily wooded former farm that had become overrun with wild roses and raspberries. The farm's unusual name came about as a result of the work necessary to carve fields out of the tangle of these wild brambles. The property had been a farm in the distant past but had been abandoned for some time. We reclaimed the overgrown fields that had been previously cleared while leaving the woods intact that had been untouched by the previous farmer.
