Massage has been proved to be a safe and effective way of helping individuals with cancer to cope with the symptoms and side effects associated with cancer and its treatments.

These most commonly are: pain, anxiety, nausea, fatigue, and depression

Massage does this by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which gets us out of "fight or flight" and into "rest and digest" where our body is able to heal.

However, not any massage therapist is able to help someone with cancer. Adequate and proper training in Oncology Massage is a must!

🌟🌟For example, if you had any lymph nodes removed as part of your cancer treatment, you are now indefinitely at risk for Secondary Lymphedema in the affected area. If your therapist is not trained, they could inadvertently work in the wrong direction, use too much pressure, not make the needed modifications, ect, and actually push you into having Lymphedema.🌟🌟

If you are looking for an Oncology Massage Therapist in your area, the Society For Oncology Massage has a list of preferred providers that you can search at s4om.org. (I am currently applying to be on the list, if you search and don't see my name yet!) Or if you are local the New Jersey, come visit me in Morristown, NJ.
