šŸ‘ļøPeople living with late-stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD) feel very limited in their everyday lives. They can no longer see what’s straight ahead, making simple tasks difficult.

Samsara Vision is reimagining life for people living with late-stage AMD. We make miniaturized telescopes that can be placed safely in the eye by an ophthalmic surgeon.

šŸ”Based on the principles of Galileo, our implantable telescopes help the peripheral parts of the retina ā€˜see’ the image viewed in straight-ahead vision.

Our research will continue to push the technology envelope and improve quality of life for people living with severe vision disorders. Learn more about our novel telescope design: https://www.samsaravision.com/implantable-telescope-technology

AMD is the leading cause of vision loss and blindness for Americans aged 65 years and older, yet stigma still exists. In this clip, Dr. David Eichenbaum tells Samsara Vision’s Rebecca Kammer how this stigma manifests in his practice.

šŸ†•New article in the International Journal of Telerehabilitation co-authored by Samsara's Becky Kammer.

Rehabilitation can benefit people with low vision, helping them carry out daily activities and learn new skills. This type of support can improve their quality of life, even with vision loss.

However, many do not have easy access to these rehabilitation services.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth became more common, allowing for new ways to provide healthcare, including telerehabilitation for low vision.

Becky, Reilly Federici, and Stasi Gormley evaluated the current evidence regarding telerehabilitation conducted by occupational therapists for patients with low vision.

The results of a multicenter, randomized controlled trial found that reading ability significantly improved. Results did not differ between therapies conducted through telerehabilitation or in-office.

Furthermore, patient and provider comfort level and overall satisfaction were similar between in-office visits and telerehabilitation.
