A ritual I incorporate into my ceremonies is inviting the family to light a candle for the person who has passed.

Rituals like this help mark transition, invite participation, and create shared meaning without requiring words or explanation.

It is a moment held with intention, allowing grief and love to exist side by side.

Grief asks more of us than words can offer.

Ritual gives grief somewhere to land, through breath, stillness, and shared presence. It reminds us we don’t have to hold loss alone. 🤍

Grief and death can be difficult topics to explain to children. To help them understand these feelings, we invite you and your little ones to our FREE Children's Grief Workshop.

Angie Schulz, our grief care coordinator, will lead you and your children in a workshop that explores the comforting message of "The Invisible String" by Patrice Karst. We'll read through the book and do a hands-on activity that teaches children how love and connection remain with us, even when someone we care about is no longer nearby.

Date: Sunday, February 15
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: Wright Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Moorhead (605 S 2nd Ave, Moorhead, MN)

Please register in advance by calling 218.233.1321, as this group is limited to 10 children. Parents and caretakers are encouraged to stay during the event.

Ritual doesn’t have to be religious or formal.

It’s simply an intentional pause, a moment that honors change and invites presence.

At the end of life, ritual helps us slow down long enough to acknowledge what has been, and what continues to be carried forward. 🤍

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing reflections on ritual; what it is, why it matters, and how it can gently support families at the end of life.

There is no right way to grieve.
Only intentional ways to remember. 🤍

Inspired by the need to bring advocacy and comfort to those who are dying, a group of local women have trained to become end-of-life doulas and formed a business to offer comfort and support during final life stage.

Showing kindness and simply showing up for someone during their time of grief is one of the most powerful ways to support them. In moments of loss, words often feel inadequate, but presence and compassion speak volumes. ✨💕

🌿 5 Ways to Make a Celebration of Life Truly Unique 🌿

A Celebration of Life is more than a service — it’s a reflection of a person’s spirit, values, and story. Here are 5 beautiful ways to personalize it:

1️⃣ Incorporate Their Passions – Display hobbies, collections, or favorite books that reflect who they were.
2️⃣ Meaningful Music – Play songs that held a special place in their heart or represent cherished memories.
3️⃣ Story Sharing – Invite guests to share short memories or funny stories during the service.
4️⃣ Symbolic Gestures – Light candles, plant a tree, or release lanterns in their honor.
5️⃣ Custom Keepsakes – Provide guests with something small to take home — a recipe card, a seed packet, or a favorite quote.

💛 Every life is unique, and so is every goodbye.

🌿 “Every life has a story worth telling — with warmth, with meaning, and with care.”

When faced with the loss of a loved one, families are often overwhelmed with decisions. One increasingly meaningful option is to work with a Life Celebrant — someone who helps shape a personalized ceremony that honors the unique life, values, and spirit of the person who has passed.

As a Celebrant, I work closely with families to:
🕯️ Listen to stories, memories, and values
🕯️ Write eulogies that reflect a full and vibrant life
🕯️ Design ceremonies with heart — using music, rituals, and readings
🕯️ Create intentional moments of reflection and remembrance
🕯️ Offer compassion, structure, and guidance in times of grief

Each ceremony is crafted to be authentic, healing, and unforgettable — a true reflection of the life being honored. If you're curious about how a Celebrant can help you or your family, I’m here to talk. 💬

Warmly,
Michelle Carney
