Mr. Mouth is a large puppet toy often used during speec therapy sessions. Benefits of using Mr. Mouth with children include the following:

▪️Makes sessions fun and engaging, boosting participation.

▪️Supports oral motor skill development for speech production.

▪️Models correct mouth movements and sounds.

▪️Encourages turn-taking, requests, and other language skills.

▪️Provides multi-sensory learning (visual, auditory, hands-on).

▪️Adaptable for different ages and speech goals.

Nessa loved using "Mr. Mouth" in therapy this summer ☀️ while practicing her L sound in words like “ladder” 🪜, “light” 💡, “lion” 🦁, etc. The puppet totally helped her tongue placement & was a great motivator for her! 👧🏼👏🏻

Last week we had the pleasure of learning about Therapeutic Listening from our very own Occupational Therapist, Carlie! ✨

Therapeutic Listening® is a specific, evidence-informed approach used mostly by occupational therapists (especially those working in sensory integration) to help improve a person’s sensory processing, attention, communication, and emotional regulation through carefully modified music. 🎶

Goals of therapeutic listening can include: improving focus and attention 🧠, supporting speech and language development 🗣️, reducing sensory defensiveness (sound sensitivity, touch sensitivity) 👂🤚, enhancing coordination and motor planning, & helping with emotional regulation. 😊😞😠😜

It’s typically used with children who have sensory processing challenges, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, developmental delays, or learning differences, but adults with sensory or neurological difficulties may benefit too.
