Public testimony from a recent congressional hearing revealed powerful, touching stories that truly illustrate the life-saving impact of the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Su***de Prevention Grant Program.
One story shared by a physician involved a young, pregnant Veteran who had fled a domestic violence situation. After connecting with a community-based organization through the program, she was enrolled in prenatal care and other VA healthcare services. She is quoted as saying, “I could not have survived without your help.”
A Marine Corps Veteran struggling with combat-related trauma, sought help from a grantee while experiencing suicidal thoughts. After receiving support, he admitted that he had already engaged in steps toward ending his life; he says that the services saved his life.
Another Veteran described how the program intervened when he felt most alone: “I would like to say thank you for keeping your word and coming through in my time of need. I wasn't getting any support from anywhere and they came in and saved me, saved my whole year. I was depressed, I was upset, I was thinking about su***de. And I just want to say thank you.”
These stories represent just a small glimpse into the impact the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Su***de Prevention Grant Program is making in the lives of Veterans across the country. Thousands more have found support, stability, and hope through this critical program. Noridian is honored to contribute to its continued success.
