In August, the heat and fire of Pitta that built up in June starts to rise to the surface, especially as moisture in our body begins to dry out. 🌞🍂

This month, Ayurveda invites us to focus on foods that are cooling, hydrating and slightly grounding, while still light enough to avoid overwhelming Agni. It’s time to soothe the lingering fire of summer while gently preparing our bodies for the cool, dry winds of fall.

Here’s your shopping list:

🌿 Mint: Naturally cooling and calming, balances Pitta heat and soothes digestion.

🍑 Peaches: Juicy and hydrating, helping balance dryness (which is key this month).

🍇 Grapes: Sweet, cooling, lightly grounding and Ojas-building.

🍐 Pears: Moistening and light, they combat late-summer dryness and calm heat.

🥒 Cucumbers: Cooling, detoxifying and deeply hydrating for tissues.

🥔 Jicama: Crunchy, sweet and grounding, perfect for balancing rising Vata.

🍠 Sweet Potatoes: Earthy and nourishing, they stabilize and prep the body for fall.

💛 Yellow Squash: Moistening and light, supports digestion and balances Pitta.

🍎 Apples: Astringent and cleansing, they gently clear excess summer heat.

🍚 Quinoa: Light yet grounding, ideal as we transition from summer to autumn.

🥛 Milk: (Organic + warm!) Nourishes and lubricates as dryness sets in.

🥥 Coconut Oil: Cools Pitta, moisturizes tissues and calms inflammation.

🥕 Carrots: Sweet and earthy, they ground airy Vata and prep digestion for fall.

🧈 Ghee: Builds Ojas, lubricates tissues and strengthens agni without heat.

🍅 Tomatoes: For Kapha types, their acidity and lightness help stimulate digestion, but avoid for Pittas + Vatas.

🌱 Mung Beans: Light, cooling and detoxifying, they balance Pitta while remaining easy to digest.

"Sunflowers are a reminder to be strong, stand tall, and always find the light."

The sunflower, a beacon of vibrant resilience, stands tall against the wind, its face ever turned towards the sun. It embodies the unwavering spirit of hope, a testament to the power of perseverance. Its towering stature serves as a potent reminder to stand strong in the face of adversity, to weather life's storms with unwavering determination, and to always seek the light, even in the darkest of times.

Like the sunflower, let us strive to cultivate inner strength, to rise above challenges, and to maintain a hopeful outlook, allowing the warmth of positivity to guide us towards a brighter future. Let us be a radiant reminder to ourselves and others of the enduring power of hope and resilience. ❤☀

"Whatever happens, stay alive. Don't die before you die. Don't lose yourself, don't lose hope, don't lose your way.

Stay alive, with yourself, with every cell of your body, with every fiber of your skin.

Stay alive, learn, study, think, read, build, create, speak, write, dream, design.

Stay alive, stay alive inside, stay alive outside, fill yourself with the colors of the world, fill yourself with peace, fill yourself with hope.

Stay alive with joy.

There is only one thing you must never waste in life, and that is life itself."

The last time I was really active on this page was in the Spring of 2023. Since then, I have gone through a divorce and returned to working with kids and families. If you have gone through a divorce, you understand that a person must grieve the old life just like grieving any other loss.

The divorce was my choice. The best decision I have ever made. (Actually, the best decision I’ve ever made was to quit drinking! 12/13/21.)
From this clarity, I was able to do what was best for me.
🥰
I feel like my body is finally back to homeostasis. No longer in fight flight mode. I have been on a path of healing for many years. The path is littered with the most beautiful light, flowers and foliage. But there are still thorns, pot holes, and road blocks. Encountering these obstacles no longer frighten me.

You can overcome too. Everything you need to overcome is within you. Your love, kindness, determination, and grit will bring you so much joy. The abundance that you have been searching for is already yours. It’s there. Keep giving your best self to the world and the world will give you its best self.

🩷🙏🏻🥰
