📣 News release: Alcohol compliance checks were performed across Cass County on September 17, 2025. In total, 18 businesses were checked and 15 passed, resulting in an 83% compliance rate.

appreciates the cooperation of the business communities across Cass County. Several times per year, FCPH partners with local law enforcement agencies to carry out alcohol compliance checks in Fargo, West Fargo and Cass County. The intent of the checks is to ensure alcohol retailers are not selling any alcohol to minors. Licensed alcohol retailers are encouraged to periodically review City Ordinances and state laws related to the sale of alcohol and to include this important information in training for new employees.

Cass County businesses that failed:
• Club 94 – 15568 37th Street Southeast, Casselton – first fail in one year
• Icewind Brewing – 349 Knutson Street, Unit B, Mapleton – first fail in one year
• Round-A-Bout Liquors – 7675 Jacks Way, Suite 102, Horace – first fail in one year

Cass County penalties:
• An alcohol compliance failure in Cass County is considered an infraction; the penalty is imposed by the court, and the entity that signs their liquor license is notified.

📣 News release: is inviting community members to attend walk-in flu shot clinics in October. The first ‘Flu Shot Friday’ event will take place on October 17, from noon to 4 p.m. The second will take place on Friday, October 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Flu shots will be provided on a walk-in basis for anyone age 6 months and older. High-dose vaccine will be available for individuals 65 years and older. The walk-in clinics will take place in the Oak Room at the main FCPH building, located at 1240 25th Street South, Fargo.

Receiving an annual flu vaccine is the best way to reduce flu-related illnesses and the risk of serious flu complications that can result in hospitalization or even death. Cheryl Wavrin, FCPH Immunization Coordinator, says, “Getting the flu vaccine can reduce the severity of illness, lessen possible days of missed school and work and help to prevent the spread of the flu. We’re especially encouraging those who are 65 years and older, children under 5 years old, pregnant women and those with chronic medical conditions like heart disease and diabetes to get vaccinated.”

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The first and most important step in preventing flu is to get a flu vaccine each year.

📢 News release: will host the seventh annual ‘Break Free Youth Action Summit’ (YAS) on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. The event is organized and supported by a partnership between FCPH and To***co Free North Dakota and is offered at no cost to participants.

The YAS provides a unique opportunity for youth advocates to demonstrate their passion and commitment in helping create the next to***co-free generation. The summit will give students tools and resources to find their voice and advocate for change. This year’s keynote speaker, Samuel Allen, a National Truth Initiative Youth Advocacy Leader, will be joined by a member of Truth Champions, a national advocacy group within the Truth Initiative. Allen and the Truth Champion will share their knowledge and experience on to***co prevention efforts at the national level while expounding on Truth strategies that assist in the fight to decrease youth to***co use. Attendees will learn about the foundational principles of leadership skills and how to amplify the youth voice on to***co prevention initiatives.

Doreen Odera, FCPH Community Health Educator, says, “We are excited to host the Seventh Annual Fargo Youth Action Summit. National organizations like Truth Initiative have made a huge impact on the to***co prevention space and we are looking forward to providing students with a new, innovative way to learn about the role they play in advocating for a healthier tomorrow. To***co prevention is vital in our communities, and attending the summit gives students the tools they need to take action not just for their own life, but for a healthier world.”

Youth are at the center of the nation’s current va**ng epidemic. Although there has been a significant decrease in youth smoking rates over the last few years, va**ng, or use of electronic ci******es, among high school students remains high. According to 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, current va**ng among North Dakota high school students is 18%, which is higher than ND adult e-cigarette use rates at 9%.
