😄 Fun is Our Specialty at BST Milbank! 😄

Around here, we don’t just help our patients feel better—we make sure everyone has a little fun along the way!

Recently, our team jumped into raising money for the Grant County Combined Appeal, an amazing organization supporting nonprofits across Grant County. And with the help of our awesome patients and staff, we raised over $2,000! 💙

But… we couldn’t just fundraise.
We had to make it interesting. 😉

Enter the Branden vs. Spencer “Pie in the Face” Showdown 🥧😂

Patients and staff cast their votes (aka donations) for who they wanted to see get pied. The suspense built… the competition heated up… and in the end, Spencer earned the honor of taking a pie right to the face! 🤣👏

Whether we’re raising money, supporting our community, or cheering each other on, one thing is true — we love bringing joy and laughter into our workday.

🌟 Community Spotlight: BST Milbank in Action! 🌟

At BST Milbank, giving back isn’t just something we do—it’s part of who we are. Our team is proud to support our community in meaningful ways, big and small.

You’ll find our staff serving through a variety of local efforts, including:
✨ Collecting food donations for the Orphan Grain Train
✨ Supporting the Grant County Combined Appeal
✨ Helping with the school backpack program
✨ Volunteering at events that raise awareness for cancer
✨ Pitching in around town—from local parks to community cleanup efforts

No matter the task, our team is dedicated to making a positive impact throughout Milbank and the surrounding area. 💙

We’re also incredibly proud of the therapists who have taken their compassion beyond our borders. Three of our Milbank team members have traveled to Guatemala on Big Stone Therapies’ mission trips, providing essential therapy services and resources to individuals in need. Even more inspiring, some have brought their family members along to share in the experience. Many describe these trips as truly life-changing—both for those served and those who serve.

💙 Patient Testimonial Spotlight – Milbank, SD 💙

This patient’s story is such a powerful reminder of how meaningful consistent, compassionate therapy can be over the years. With a family history of osteoarthritis and pain beginning after the birth of her first child, she turned to Big Stone Therapies in Sisseton — and found relief through the right exercises, improved walking and stretching techniques, and simple movements she could use throughout her busy day.

As someone who works closely with our therapy team in the clinic and hospital setting, becoming a patient herself brought a new level of trust and appreciation. She shared how our therapists have always been confidential, flexible, hardworking, and willing to go above and beyond — even calling her during rounds to remind her of appointments!

Over time, therapy continued in Milbank to help with recurring back pain, and eventually supported her through a much bigger challenge: significant knee osteoarthritis. After her left knee replacement 1.5 years ago — and now her right knee replacement just three weeks ago — she’s already recovering exceptionally well, gaining strength, improving her gait, and walking with confidence again.

She credits her progress to the physical and occupational therapy teams in Milbank and Sisseton who pushed her, encouraged her, and personalized her care every step of the way.

💬 Kristen Pearson Ash, CCC-SLP
Kristen has been with Big Stone Therapies for 18 years. A proud SDSU grad (Go Jacks!) with a Master’s from USD, she has served patients across many settings and loves working with supportive teams. Outside of work, she enjoys time with her adult sons, daughter-in-law, fiancé, family, and friends.

📚 Kate Endres, SLP
Now in her 3rd school year with BST, Kate specializes in working with students with autism—a true passion of hers. She loves collaborating with Milbank school staff and watching her students succeed in all areas of learning.

🖐️ Kelly Peters, OTR/L
Kelly has been an OT with BST for 12 years and is certified in Brain Gym, Therapeutic Listening, and the Beckman Oral Motor Program. She loves celebrating her students’ accomplishments—big and small—and seeing “her kids” shine in their community activities.

✨ Callie Kleindl, OTR/L
Callie has been an OT at the Milbank location for just over a year and is certified in LSVT BIG, SASTM, and MOCA. She loves helping patients return to the activities most meaningful to them and supporting their journey back to independence.

🌿 Tiffany, COTA
A LATI grad with certifications in lymphedema, chronic pain, and pelvic floor, Tiffany is passionate about helping people find meaningful relief. She stays busy with her husband, Dean, and daughters Jada Leigh (15) and TyLynn (13), and also runs a recreational gymnastics program and works as a massage therapist. She has worked with BST for 6–7 years and loves being part of the Milbank team.

With 9 years at BST and 3 as Clinic Manager, Branden treats patients of all ages, specializing in vestibular rehab, sports injuries, and post-operative care. He also offers Falls & Balance training, Myofascial Cupping, SASTM, and Blood Flow Restriction.

💙 Tayla Waddell, PTA
A Milbank native and PTA for 9 years, Tayla is certified in LSVT BIG, Myofascial Cupping, and Pelvic Health. She loves working with the geriatric population — and chasing after her 4 kids outside of work!

🌻 Beth Fonder, PTA
Beth has been with BST for 6 years and loves helping patients return to the activities they enjoy. She values building relationships with people of all ages and celebrating their progress both in the clinic and out in the community.

💬 Spencer Schaefbauer, PT
Spencer has been with BST for 3 years and is certified in dry needling and Emergency Response to the Athlete. He loves connecting with patients and co-workers and feels blessed to serve such a great community.

Since 1999, our Milbank team has been honored to serve this incredible community. What began as a small practice in the basement of St. Williams Nursing Home has grown into a thriving clinic at Avera Hospital — now supported by 11 full-time and 4 PRN employees who are passionate about making a difference. 💙

We proudly provide outpatient, inpatient, skilled nursing, home health, school-based services, and athletic training to Milbank and the surrounding communities.
