After 20 years, Senior Master Sgt. Mandy Jordan is retiring from the Air Force. She scouted out jobs using the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program, which led her to an internship and full-time employment with Sanford Health.

"It's an opportunity for active-duty military members who are transitioning out of the military and into the workforce to gain civilian training and work experience," said Caitlin Eigenberg, the DoD SkillBridge Program administrator for Sanford Health. "At Sanford, what that means is we partner with our recruiting teams to provide resume review, interview tips, real life training and hopefully permanent employment at the end of the program."

At the NICU in the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, it's all treats and no tricks this Halloween.

Our youngest patients had the chance to celebrate by dressing up in costumes. We had everything from mermaids to football players!

We understand that spending time in the NICU can be an emotional experience for families, and we hope this fun Halloween event brings them joy.

10/31/2024

Halloween just got a whole lot sweeter with our NICU babies. While they're not ready to go door-to-door quite yet, our littlest patients got to celebrate the holiday too.

Parents and caregivers dressed our littlest patients in costumes including a chef, unicorn, strawberry, farmer and more.

Spending time in the NICU can be an emotional experience for our families, and we hope this fun Halloween event brings them some joy.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill advisories or warnings will not be issued any more. Instead of wind chill advisories or warnings, strong winds will be combined into the existing Extreme Cold Warning and will now be called Extreme Cold Watches.

Sanford's Ryan Sivertson, MD, says that with the cold weather approaching it is important to be aware of the risk of frost bite.

Common symptoms of frost bite may begin as a tingling or numb feeling to the affected area, as your body restricts blood flow to outer extremities.

Earlier this year, high schoolers were able to take part in Sanford Bemidji's inaugural Native Americans with Stethoscopes Camp. The students were exposed to several facets of health care throughout the morning, including how to suture wounds, how to deliver a baby, and more.

"Our intent is to match kids who are interested in a career in medicine with some real-world examples of how medicine can be fun," said Daniel Hoody, MD, chief medical officer at Sanford Bemidji.
