Welcome to Becoming Balanced
Hello! I’m Dr. Zielke and I am going to give you my version of the story of how Becoming Balanced came into being. Trishia and I began the journey of developing “Becoming Balanced” after I attended the Women’s Health Conference on September 17, 2018. I was at the conference that day with my mother and was super excited for the afternoon keynote speaker, Danielle LaPorte, as I had been a fan for a couple years (I was even able to get a book autographed and my photo taken with her!). (Put photo in). During Ms. LaPorte’s talk, she discussed how important reaching women is to her, her own struggles in being a business woman, and evaluating all things in life as either “light” or “heavy”. I had been struggling in life leading up to that day and I started to reflect on how most things in my life seemed “heavy” at that point. I spent the rest of the day in solitude, mulling over what would feel “light” to me and allowing myself to dream big. The result of all of that mulling was “Becoming Balanced”. I knew opening my own business would be difficult to do alone and there was only one person who came to mind when I thought about sharing the journey. Trishia has been my friend and colleague since 2012. She is an amazingly strong, independent, and passionate woman who serves as a daily inspiration to me. I approached her immediately the next day about my idea and she was hooked (after I assured her we would be successful). We had many discussions about our rationale for starting our own business as well as how to manage the challenges which will likely fuel many blog posts to come.
For me, flexibility in my schedule and being able to follow my passions were the two major reasons for starting Becoming Balanced. I found myself struggling with finding time to care for my health and family, work, and make time for all the wonderful people in my life. Working 8-5 Monday through Friday does not work with my lifestyle anymore and acknowledging that was difficult. My sincerest hope in developing Becoming Balanced is to help the women in the Fargo-Moorhead community put into place the services and skills, in an accessible way, that they need to live their best most balanced life.
Now it’s Trishia’s turn to tell her version of the story:
The journey of “Becoming Balanced” has been nothing short of amazing thus far. I was so excited when Dr. Zielke approached me with this idea, however, I was hesitant at first. I already have a lot on my plate and I have never been much of a “risk taker”. But, when she said to me “Why can’t we do this?, We can do this!”, I realized this is absolutely true! Since becoming a mom over 10 years ago, it has seemed like an ongoing challenge to find the work/family balance that I desired. This is a common theme that I also hear from clients. It was time to take my own advice, “you need to do what works best for you and what is going to make you happy”. Just like Dr. Zielke identified, working 8-5 Monday-Friday was not working for me. The main motivators for me in starting Becoming Balanced include the need for flexibility, doing the work that I am driven and passionate about-helping and empowering women, and frankly to be able to take better care of myself and my family. Life is too short to not even try to do amazing things!
