Community and peer outreach coordinator Lacey attended a South Sound networking event at the Thurston County Resource Hub!

Other community organizations in attendance included: Discover Recovery, We Level Up Washington, The Recovery Village Ridgefield Drug and Alcohol Rehab, Rainier Springs, Boulder Care, Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers, Sisu Healing Partners, and more.

Before Ideal Option, Charles tried several times to start and sustain recovery, but it never lasted very long.

"I couldn't make it long term unless I was in jail," he recalls. "And even then, within a day or so of getting out of jail, I would relapse."

But all that changed when Charles enrolled at Ideal Option.

"In the 15 years that I used opiates and other substances, I was never able to quit," he shares. "Now, I am 16 months clean with no relapses at all, and I feel amazing."

Ideal Option's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brian Dawson, was recently published in the Psychiatric Times! His article, "Combatting the Opioid Crisis With Evidence-Based Treatments," highlights that over 6 million Americans live with opioid use disorder, yet proven medications like methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone remain underutilized despite approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

So what’s standing in the way? Stigma, provider shortages, policy barriers, and gaps in care, especially for people leaving jail or prison. In fact, only a fraction of correctional facilities offer medication-assisted treatment.

The takeaway? We already have effective tools to fight the opioid epidemic. Expanding access, reducing stigma, and strengthening collaboration across healthcare and justice systems are key to saving more lives.

Cynthia says that since joining Ideal Option, she is back to a healthy state.

"Who knew a toothache could get a person hooked on fentanyl so quickly? It was never my intention to get addicted," she says.

Now that she has her life back, Cynthia is able to be there for her son and navigate him through life.

"I wish everyone would go to Ideal Option, because they honestly saved my life."

Community outreach team members Lacey and April attended Recovery Advocacy Day in Olympia, hosted by Washington Recovery Alliance! Hundreds of recovery advocates gathered at the Capitol to meet with lawmakers, share personal stories, and champion policies regarding recovery housing, peer support, and behavioral health workforce development.

Community partners in attendance included: Northpoint Recovery, Washington Society of Addiction Medicine - WSAM, Recovery Navigator Program, Valley Defenders, PLLC, Sea Mar Community Health Centers, and more!
