Try something different this weekend - yoga on the inflatable boards at the Faribault Community Center Pool! After being closed for a month for repairs and renovations, I finally got back to teaching on the pool mats this morning! It felt fantastic to be back. Next weekend - SUP teacher training. I can't wait!

When is the last time you practiced pratyahara?

Pratyahara translates to "control of ahara,” or, to gain mastery over external influences. This lesser known limb of yoga has been compared to a turtle withdrawing into its shell, the turtle’s shell representing the mind and the turtle’s limbs representing the senses.

This practice reminds us of the importance of regulating our senses. Since we are bombarded with impressions from the media on a regular basis, it is important to pause, reflect, and recenter as often as we can.

That's why we've decided that for the next several days, our social media feeds, and the team that runs them, will be taking a much-needed break. We will still be checking messages and comments, but we're taking this opportunity to rest, recharge, and refuel, and we encourage all of you to find space to do the same.

Try unplugging when possible, and getting back in touch with what’s going on in the environment around you and within you.

This feed will still be here when you decide to come back.

I'm back!

To say March has been a whirlwind is an understatement. But I'm back and ready to share all the yoga goodness with you!

I'm working on some really cool things for this spring and summer, but in the meantime you can still find me at Fit for Life on Thursdays, at the Faribault Community Center pool on Saturdays, and in the salt room at Studio 14 Salon and Spa. The last week of Cozy Yoga wraps up this Sunday, then that will go on hiatus until next fall.

So tell me...what are you most looking forward to in April? For me, I'm looking forward to life settling down a bit!

The current session of Cozy Yoga is wrapping up this weekend, and it went so well I'm going to do it again!

Join us on Sunday evenings, from 7-8:30, in the lobby of the Paradise Center for the Arts in historic downtown Faribault. Each session begins with a hot beverage and quiet time for reading, journaling, or just resting a few minutes with your eyes closed, followed by a gentle, low to the ground yoga class. Sessions will have a mix of styles, including restorative, yin and relaxation.

This session will run February 20 - April 3 (no class on March 13). You can buy individual weeks or an all-session pass for $72. This session was sold out, so don't wait! Sign up online at https://bit.ly/CozyYoga22.

Today’s Doodle: Present Moment ♥

Our beloved teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, whose mindful focus and teachings changed how the world practices Buddhism, passed away Saturday morning. He was 95.

Though I didn’t get the chance to meet him in real life, Thich Nhat Hanh has been one of my primary teachers through reading his books since beginning the Buddha Doodles practice.

This week, I will be honoring him by posting doodles inspired by his writings. Some doodles will be from the very beginning and middle of this artistic journey, others more recent. His words continue to inspire me nearly every morning as I read and study his book, “The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching.”

May he rest in peace and live on through his teachings.

Do you journal? I have found it to be an amazing exercise to help clear my brain and not be stuck ruminating on things over and over again, making room for things I need to think about and remember.

There are many ways to journal, whether it be pen and paper, a notes app on your phone, voice recorder, google doc, whatever. For me, I find a pretty notebook and purple pen makes it that much more enjoyable.

If you haven't journaled before, consider doing this. Write down 3-5 things you are grateful for everyday. It can be as simple as a cozy blanket to cuddle up with on rainy mornings. Don't think too hard, the first few things you come up with are fine. As you continue your practice, you will find yourself going deeper within yourself to come up with things.
