Fort Worth Emergency Medicine Residency at John Peter Smith

The Emergency Department (ED) at John Peter Smith Hospital (JPS) provides outstanding care for the highest acuity patients in Tarrant County. Faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) provides Residents with exceptional education and broad clinical experiences to include best practice management strategies for both common and uncommon presentations.

ALL EM Faculty are ABEM or ABOEM certified or eligible. JPS provides the only ED in Tarrant County with 100% Board Certified/Eligible Emergency Physicians attending 24/7/365. The American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved our program in July, 2009 as the largest EM Residency startup ever. We matched our inaugural class of twelve Residents on March 17, 2011. We recently graduated our second class. All graduates enjoy a variety of competitive community and academic positions, including five that have completed or are currently pursing fellowships [Quality at UT Houston, Teaching at LSU Baton Rouge, EMS at JPS/IES/MedStar, Toxicology and Disaster/Tactical Medicine at UT Soutwestern].

Our Residents receive and contribute to the highest quality education available in areas such as Critical Care, Trauma, and ED Administration serving both Adult and Pediatric patient populations. The JPS EM Residency Program is dedicated to graduating the new leaders of medicine – making a difference now and well into the future.
