As many in the equine industry already know, there is an EHV-1 outbreak that started in Texas and is slowly spreading.
We are recommending:
1. that everyone stays home for the next few weeks instead of traveling to shows.
2. if your horse is currently showing no symptoms, that boosters be given if it has been more than 6 months since vaccines.
Symptoms of EHV-1
*Fever: Horses may develop a fever ranging from 102°F to 107°F (38.9°C to 41.7°C).
*Nasal Discharge: Initially clear, the discharge may become purulent as the infection progresses.
*Coughing and Pharyngitis: Horses often exhibit coughing and inflammation of the throat.
*Lethargy and Malaise: Infected horses may show signs of fatigue and general unwellness.
Symptoms can progress to neurological signs if left untreated.
