To the mothers of Mala — and to mothers everywhere — Happy Mother’s Day. 🤍

Today we honor the women who are holding so much with tenderness, courage, and resilience.

The mothers who left entire countries behind to build safer futures for their children.
The mothers healing wounds they never deserved to carry.
The neurodivergent mothers learning to parent in a world that was never built with their minds in mind.
The single mothers carrying the weight of entire systems on their backs.
The first-time mothers navigating uncertainty with love.
The first-generation college graduate mothers rewriting what is possible for future generations.
The mothers raising neurodivergent children while learning to advocate, regulate, and heal alongside them.
The mothers doing deep inner work so their children inherit less pain and more freedom.

Different stories. Different paths.
But every one of them is a cycle breaker in some way.

At Mala Child & Family Institute, we believe healing does not happen in isolation. It happens in relationships, in community, in repair, in showing up over and over again when things are hard. So much of that work is carried quietly by mothers.

May we honor them.
May we support them.
May we build systems and communities that care for them, too.
And may we learn from their softness, strength, vulnerability, advocacy, and courage to keep growing into safer humans for one another.

To all the moms in our Mala community — we see you, and we are endlessly grateful for you. 🤍

We’re so proud to introduce Mala’s Director of Psychological Assessment — Dr. Mariam Saad, PhD, LP. 🎉

In this role, Dr. Saad leads and supports our team of psychologists in delivering comprehensive, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming psychological evaluations.

For Dr. Saad, assessment is never just a series of tests or checklists. It is a process of deeply understanding a person’s story - their strengths, their struggles, their context, and the systems they move through. Every evaluation is thoughtfully tailored, grounded in the belief that no two minds, and no two lived experiences are the same.

At Mala, assessments are about clarity, compassion, and creating a path forward.

We are so honored to have Dr. Saad in this leadership role. đź’›

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — the Mala way:

Support your neurotype.
Context matters.
Healing is relational.
Question the systems you’ve been taught to survive in.
Access > aesthetics.

Real care means therapy, occupational therapy, speech & language, psychological evaluation, and medication management — working together, not in silos.

Not fixing people.
Supporting people + shifting systems.

We’re beyond excited to celebrate a huge milestone—our very own Katie Czarnik is now a Registered Play Therapist! 🎉 This incredible achievement reflects years of dedication, extensive training, and hundreds of hours of supervised clinical work.

Katie’s journey with Mala began over three years ago as a postgraduate fellow, and we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow every step of the way. Since then, she’s become a fully licensed social worker, a trusted supervisor to MSW students, a leader of neurodivergent-affirming therapy groups, and now, a Registered Play Therapist.

Katie brings creativity, playfulness, and genuine joy into everything she does. She specializes in supporting clients with Autism, ADHD, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and other forms of neurodivergence, as well as those who identify within the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

We’re so grateful to have Katie as part of the Mala team and couldn’t be prouder of this well-deserved accomplishment. 💛
