At Mala, so much of our work around trauma, neurodiveristy, and multicultural care is related to honoring the memory of Danny Ashtiani who passed away 9 years ago from su***de at the age of 17.

Danny was the only sibling of our founder, Dr. Hasti Raveau. Danny was always full of life and had a gift at making people laugh, be present, and feel alive. He loved listening to music and hanging out with his friends, riding his scooter, skateboarding, and eating Five Guys. He also loved photography, poetry, art, and wrestling. Danny’s beautiful soul is still so alive through everything and everyone he touched.

Because of what Danny went through, as someone with ADHD who did not receive proper support, Dr. Raveau became determined to do things differently for other children. She has made it her life’s mission to ensure that neurodivergent and minority children do not become traumatized through the academic and medical systems, are best supported by their families, and have access to high quality mental health care that is preventive, effective, and holistic.

We invite you to honor and celebrate anyone today who has been touched by su***de! Every day can be su***de awareness day!

We’re kicking off 2026 by shining a spotlight on our incredible Director of Occupational Therapy, Katy Bachleda! ✨

Katy joined the Mala team in July 2024, and from day one, she has been instrumental in building our occupational therapy (OT) department from the ground up—and helping it truly thrive along the way.

Beyond being a talented, creative, and fun OT, Katy brings so much heart and personality to our team. She’s also:
🐾 A devoted dog mom
🌱 A proud houseplant enthusiast
🤾‍♀️ A competitive spirit through and through
🎥 A movie lover and The Office superfan

And that’s just the beginning! We’re so grateful for Katy’s leadership, passion, and the energy she brings to Mala every day. 💛

💡 Follow along as we continue our series and get to know the Mala team!

Yesterday, we had the privilege of kicking off 2026 with Mala’s very first Integrated Care Training Summit ✨

With a focus on ethical care, risk assessment, cultural humility, and more, this summit invited us to deepen our understanding of what it truly means to be an interdisciplinary clinic committed to neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.

Here’s to the year ahead, and to the many opportunities to continue growing, learning, and showing up thoughtfully for the communities we serve. 💛

The holidays can bring joy—and they can also bring up tension, distance, and complicated family dynamics.

Mala’s founder, Dr. Hasti Raveau, PhD, sat down with 7 News Detroit to talk about navigating strained relationships during the holiday season, leaning into your values, and moving safely through emotional discomfort.

If this time of year feels heavier than expected, you’re not alone—and support matters. 💛
