Advocacy is at the heart of what we do.

From helping individuals understand their rights to pushing for better accessibility in our communities, LIFE, Inc. is committed to inclusion and equal opportunity.

Advocacy can look like asking for an accommodation, speaking up at a city meeting, or helping a friend understand their options.

Walkers, canes, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids are more than equipment - they are tools for independence.

LIFE, Inc. accepts donations of gently used mobility devices, then cleans and repairs them so they can be matched with someone in need.

Have equipment you no longer use? Consider donating it so someone else can move more freely.

Today is World Braille Day, an international day that highlights the importance of braille as a tool for communication, education, and independence for people who are blind or visually impaired.

January 4 was chosen because it is the birthday of Louis Braille, who created the braille system that has transformed access to literacy around the world.

At LIFE, Inc., we believe accessibility includes formats people can read, understand, and use - including braille, large print, and accessible technology.
Comment ♿ or 💙 to show your support for braille literacy and accessibility for all.

Meet Blaice, our Community Partner Work Incentives Counselor, who joined LIFE, Inc. in January 2025.

Blaice loves knowing their work has an impact and says, “We walk with people through some of the biggest challenges in their lives.”

One proud moment was seeing a Pre-ETS student pass their driving test on the first try using the self-advocacy skills they practiced with our team.

In her free time, Blaice enjoys refinishing furniture, reading with their animals nearby, and playing board games with their husband.

Drop a 💙 in the comments to help us thank Blaice for all she does.

Our Story

In 1997, the LIFE Center (formally named L.I.F.E., Inc.) for Independent Living opened its doors with the goal of serving seniors as well as individuals with disabilities, regardless their age, in the Greater Parkland area of southeast Missouri.

“There’s no place like home,” is the mantra of the LIFE Center for Independent Living. At the Life Center, we are all about providing empowerment. We supply options.

Our greatest resource…our staff. Each member of our team is hand-picked with varied backgrounds to produce a unique product…exceptional, heart-felt support and advocacy. Over 51% of our governing board, management, and staff is comprised of individuals with disabilities which springs from the persuasion that people with disabilities understand how best to meet the needs of others with disabilities. This factor also creates a blend of sensitivity and understanding in the entire team.

The bottom line…we care about YOU!
